There’s a rumor that Diggs is wanting out of Minnesota now that they’ve gone to a run first philosophy—Thanks to the rise of Dalvin Cook and poor QB play. I couldn’t find anything to verify that this is true, but I did see speculation that he could be involved in a trade with Jacksonville for Ramsey which indicates to me that they would be open to it. If this doesn’t come to fruition, I’d be interested in pursuing Diggs for a few reasons.

    Pros

    1. This offense needs a spark! No one is respecting JuJu as a #1 and with Moncrief sh#$ting the bed, we don’t have a true #2 to take the pressure off JuJu and a super young QB. We’re asking a lot out of our inexperienced wrs to fill that role. Teams are committed to stopping the run and are not worried about any of our other offensive weapons. Based on our play, why should they?!!
    2. Diggs is a fantastic route runner, has speed and great hands. High character, liked in Minnesota. A trade like this would instantly make our wr group one of the better ones in the Nfl. It also brings real veteran experience to teach our young guys route running skills - something that Washington, Johnson (which was skill he was known for in college) and even JuJu are trying to get better at—These guys are young! This also opens the door to cut some fat off this team—Moncrief, Switzer, Holton.
    3. Last year, Diggs caught 102 passes for 1021 yards and 9 TDs. He’s only 25 and signed a 5 year/72 mill contract this past offseason. 40 of that is guaranteed and if the Vikings are really open to eating this up, we’d be be getting him at an avg. of 11 mill/year (about 8 this year). That’s cheap for a weapon that could be wr 1 or allow juju to become wr 1a.
    4. If Ben does come back and if Colbert is determined to make the most of our shrinking window—as evidenced by the steeler philosophy of suddenly trading players and picks, he’d be walking into a pretty good situation next year. Even if Ben retires this surely puts Mason or our future QB in a better position to succeed. This also could allow Fichtner to use Diggs in ABs role and with any success, allow our gameplan to resemble last years. Juju can resume his old responsibility, use familiar motions at the line, and play the mismatches. With luck this also opens up the run game.

Mike Zimmer seems to be looking for a DB or a defensive player and I know we can’t really afford to give up one—or have one with much trade value. However, I would try to trade Hilton, our 2019 2nd and a conditional 2020 4th or 5th based on signing Hilton long term. Hell give them Switzer too.

    Cons

    1. Giving up our potential early 2nd round pick—especially with the limited picks we have left. This is definitely something that has me reserved in pulling the trigger, but the potential effects of this trade (long term) has me thinking it’s worth it. Who knows, We could completely whiff on our 2nd rd pick, or in all likelihood they will not contribute right away. Would you feel better about giving up a 2 if it was a mid to late 2nd rounder?
    2. Giving up a DB could make our secondary/defense worse than it already is. I’d argue that the issue is coaching more than anything; I mean we have 8 players picked in the first round on D?! Until we get new coaches, I expect the same. Since communication doesn’t seem to be improving and I don’t think we plan on signing Hilton long term, we got nothing to lose. Hilton is a good player, but he certainly won’t be the xfactor to turn the d around.

Would love to have him but Minnesota are not trading him mid season while still in the hunt. They need him and it would kill them in terms of dead cap, Pittsburgh can’t afford him either.

Minnesota have not started well but they are in much better shape than the Steelers. Can’t see why he’d want to move to a team that is in a down year.

    LOL.

Oh yeah, he's going to want to come to a 0-3 team with an unproven QB.

If we did that we might as well just not even show up to the draft next year

And in the 2020 NFL draft the Pittsburgh Steelers select no one. No One...

Welcome new coaching staff and general manager...

Good question I’m not sure how we’d afford him, or who we could restructure, but if they traded for Ramsey they would eat the dead cap, in all likelihood give up a 1st and turn around and sign Ramsey to a 100 mill contract. For the Vikings, it would be a play to gain ammo to draft a top QB. Cousins has been one of the reasons they’ve gone run first; he looks terrible. Mason looks bad but at a whole lot cheaper. Diggs has 6 catches for 101 yards and 1 TD with cousins at qb. Could he really be doing any worse with Mason? For Colbert, he’d certainly be doing the trade on the premise that Ben will be back next year.

Yes, one diva WR for another. He has the same agent as Leveon Bell. Hard PASS.

If we use the Bettis years as a guide I would say that Diggs needs to relax because with any successful running game as teams gear up to stop them the Wr's start to see their numbers increase and they increase to quite a bit. So the more the Vikings run the better it will get for Diggs and Thielen.

Give it a week or two of losses for the Cowboys and fans will be looking to trade for Zeke Elliot too, right after we pick up Diggs.

Suddenly we are officially run by Madden owners.

What's hilarious is I made the joke about bundling late Rd picks to get top tier talent in a trade because there are actually fans who think that way. They think it's like Madden and you throw together a package of picks and middle talent and you can get a player like Diggs. The cap hit and money is just details and can be done.

This isn't like the Bettis trade where you have a player who had two years that were unspectacular and wasn't a good fit in the offense the Rams had moved to that was traded to the perfect team and situation for him to just flourish. Diggs is a legit top receiver and like the Ramsey trade, the Vikings will want a king's ransom in trade.

Get off your high horse bro. Crazy sh#t happens in today’s NFL. Suddenly things aren’t as crazy.

Kind of like signing the best wr in the nfl to a league high wideout contract, trading him for a third and fifth, only to have him sign at a higher amount and then get cut before even playing a game. Suddenly picked up by the patriots and dropped after one game. That sounds way more madden to me. How about signing a coach to 100million/10 yr contract (not even possible in madden I don’t think).

The only difference between madden and the nfl is that we’re looking at AB situation in hindsight and knowing the storylines attached to transactions.

Boy you’ll be disappointed when they add true life player inspired storylines to Madden 2027. Lol.

Nah the Steelers don't need another WR. Just need one of the current WRs to step up as the #2 and take some pressure off JuJu.

Diggs signed an 81 mill contract last year with a 40 mill guarantee through the 2023 season, no way can we afford that kind of contract and he isnt going to be on the trading block anyway even if he was we dont have the picks or the money to get him.....

If we're trading a 1st round pick away, it should be for a:
    -Need position
    -Immediate starter
-No locker room cancer or potential distraction
    -Durable & young (under 24)

That's why we traded away a 1st for Fitzpatrick, and won't trade away for Diggs: he falls short on that list.

No. His salary + roster/workout bonuses average around $12 million/year for 2020 - 2023. More importantly for right now, we can’t even come close to fitting his 2019 salary under our cap.

If he’s truly whining about wanting out right after getting $40 million guaranteed, then nobody should want him (least of all the Steelers after recent history).

Oh... and I love the original post about offering Hilton. Yeah, the nickel corner in the league who is the worst in coverage is going to have big trade value...
