At about 2:30 today I was in the car and heard a lengthy discussion between the two hosts who I will leave anonymous because some people judge the merit of a discussion based on who said it rather than the content.

Host A said Rudolph looked terrible, throwing the check down instantly, and wildly inaccurate with his downfield throws. He pointed out that other than the huge YAC by Ju Ju on that one TD Rudolph's numbers were horrible.

Host B (a former NFL QB) said the game plan was bad. He quoted stats of how many pass attempts were 2 yards or less vs how many were 10 yards or more....it was pretty depressing. He stated that if the vast majority of your pass attempts are 2 yards or less the defense will cheat and the run game can never succeed.

Is the glass half empty or half full?

I'd say they're both right. However Stone, looks to me like you might have a "pH" imbalance. ;) (Rudolph)

Host B always has a good insight.
I like his honesty, I liked when the Steelers beat him up.

Would agree with both of them as well. It’s like they are trying to hide Rudolph’s inexperience by only making simple short throws. Defences are not buying it.

Would love to see MR take a few shots downfield early v the Bengals and see what happens

I think they definitely lived in their fears and didn't have a solid game plan.

Rudolph is a victim of the coaching staff. Ben had the luxury of calling his own shots and running the offense. Rudolph doesn't have that luxury he's handcuffed by whatever crappy play is sent in from the sidelines.

Thoughts? Person A sounds like a lot of people on this board and person B sounds like someone that actually watched the game and understood what unfolded

Whomever person B is, I agree with. Fitchner needs to let Mason loose. Stop spoon feeding him. He is a year two QB.

Work with his strengths. Attack your opposition's weaknesses. Should not be that hard for an Offensive Coordinator.

Definitely game plan. But like I stated in my draft analysis thread.. We lack a deep threat or anybody to command a double team. We need somebody to take the top of the defense. Teams are just stacking the box, single man high. Guys aren't winning their one on ones on a consistent basis. When they do ie Juju, it's a touchdown because of how aggressive defenses are playing us. They do not fear us. When they do this it's tough sledding for Conner. Having a deep/homerun threat will make teams keep a guy over top. It opens up everything for Juju and Conner. Washington has proven his college game doesn't translate to pros. Moncrete can't catch, let alone get enough separation. Meanwhile, Metcalf is #1 in the league for go route success rate at like 91%. But hey, they wouldn't use a 5th to trade with the Cardinals and go get him. They rather use a 5th on some random TE when we are 0-3 and franchise QB is on IR.

It’s always awesome to beat on a Browns QB.

I think he wants to sling it, just the way he did Oklahoma but they did two things in prep last week. Told him they don't expect much and then set him up to minimize his mistakes. You have to let him fail so he knows to pick himself back up. You also have to put pressure on him by giving him expectations that force his competitive nature to the forefront. Telling Ben he couldn't do something was generally a good way to get him to prove you wrong. If they went out there on those two turnovers and scored TD's instead of kicking field goals then the Kid has swagger, the game plan changes and you start playing to win instead of the way they played in Oakland last year and again on Sunday which was to hold a small lead and not lose

Bingo! Plus you have to see what he really has! If he's got the swagger and the skill to match then we are off to the races, if he doesn't, we were doomed anyway.

How can Gardner Minshew and Kyle Allen ( With less experience ) come in and immediately light it up... If that doesn't tell you all you need to know about Fitchner

Garoppolo was interviewed and ask about the game winning drive. He said the D looked confused. JH complained before he left about 2 people calling in different plays.

The plan for Mason was not to throw. Everybody knew that, including the 49ers. This IMO is partly why they stacked 7 men in the box. The Ratbirds pulled this with Bell and guess what, Bell got very few yards.

My point, the defense is confused bc the idiot Tomlin wants to call plays and so does Butler...both are clueless. The running was defeated before the game started. Mason wasnt allowed to pass.

I will say it again, we had the #1 WR, #1 RB, Hall of Fame QB and did F*** all with it. Now we have none of that and its the same story, only 1 thing that hasnt been changed.......Just saying.

Yet you seem to have forgotten that there are 53 players on a team. We have a AB, wr, and a rb that’s all we need!

Mason struggled with his accuracy and reads. Coaches look bad under those circumstances.

The playcalling did him no favors, but he was also not very decisive. He was a split second late on several throws. It was really noticeable on two outs where the receiver was open coming out of the break. The ball wasn't there however and by the time he threw it the defender was there to break it up. His arm strength is average so he really needs to anticipate quicker.

When teams win its due to players, when they lose its due to coaches.

At least that's what we as fans think

No, I didnt forget. Everything has been changed on the team but one thing and the same problems are there, getting worse. The draft picks are horrible, the play calling is horrible, time management is horrible, challenge flags are horrible and now 0-3.

I don't think it is accurate to put all the blame on the play-calling or to put it on Rudolph. The offensive line's struggles made both look worse. Part of the reason for the shorter throws was the lack of protection. It's tough to take shots if you can't give your quarterback enough time.
