Minkah was unhappy with the Dolphins because (1) he was being forced to play positions he didn't want to and (2) the Dolphins may be the only team this year worse than the Steelers.

While we can't do much about (2), I assume we are using him at S since we have 2 good corners in Haden and Nelson.

Does anyone know if he WANTS to play S? If not, then we just paid a very hefty price for a slot corner when this team is at least a dozen pieces away from contending for a Super Bowl this year.

Yes. And at 0-2 and not seeing a win until week 8 I think it's not too far of a stretch.

I'm reading elsewhere that Minkah's favorite position is slot CB.

Well if he isn’t willing to play Free Safety then this is a disaster of a trade. You don’t trade potential top 10-15 picks for a slot corner. I sure hope somebody did their homework. You just took some wind from my sails...

I think the stats say he plays best at slot corner. He was moved about a lot though.

My assumption is he wants to play FS - it would be odd for the FO to trade so much if that was an issue.

Oh, he was definitely unhappy with how the Dolphins used him at safety. That was certainly part of it.

I'll assume that Colbert had a talk with his agent about how they plan to use him and what Fitzgerald thought about it. At this point I'm guessing he just wanted to GTFO and would have agreed to the trade on just about any terms.

I hope you are right, but this front office hasn't exactly been a model of consistency for many years now.

I hope this doesn't turn into a more expensive version of the Brandon Boykin mess where we thought we were getting an outside corner only to be told he was "slot only"

The Giants and the Jets are both going to be really bad. The Dolphins actually play both of them, the Jets twice of course, so I think 0-16 is going to be a challenge. But if anyone rise to the occasion, it's the Dolphins.

For sure. Perusing the Dolphins message boards the view seemed to be he wasn’t the Earl Thomas-type they had hoped for, but he was moved around too much to see.

I think he was mostly unhappy with having to play multiple positions... I've read 6 different spots. That would be tough for anyone. He'd likely be thrilled to be asked to play FS.

I just don't see a plan here. Trading away a 1st round pick for a guy that hasn't done anything and after 1 year the team wants to trade him. It's all a little weird. We are not 1 CB away from anything but 4-12, why not stockpile and save our pics for the future after Tomlin.

The obvious answer is the Colbert, Tomlin, Butler and maybe even Fichtner are feeling their seats heat up. The move is one of desperation to avoid a losing season and losing their jobs. Not sure adding a safety does that though. We have 8 first round picks on D....it may be the coaching.

Fitzpatrick has an INT vs. Brady. Something our DBs sans Haden's circus catch in '18... never seem to be able to accomplish.

They arent grossly incompetent either which they’d have to be to do what you are concerned about here.

If they aren’t 1 player away then they aren’t 1 first round pick away either.

Fact is, this move could contribute a great deal to making this defense legit and winning games right now.

They aren't grossly incompetent, but it is certainly fair to question the front office and head coach after the mistakes of recent seasons. I include Tomlin because I'm sure he has input on personnel moves.

Looking like Davis being injured made parting with a first more attractive.
