Ben has spoken about his injury, and his hopes for the future. He's says he's heartbroken (expectedly so), but that he intends to honor his contract.

“The Steelers committed three years to me this offseason and I fully intend to honor my contract and reward them with championship level play,” Roethlisberger said in the statement.

The future will tell how things go with Mason the rest of this year, and where things are next season, but I do wish Ben a full recovery as fast as possible (football aside).

What did we expect him to say?

Depends on who you ask. Deion probably expected him to say he's done. I expected pretty much what he did say.

    I believe that’s his intention.

I know that's what Ben thinks he needs to say, but imho, he should just hang up the cleats and call it a day, instead of trying to come back and only be a shadow of his former self. I hate seeing guys hang on too long. It's time, Ben, it's time.

Well hopefully Rudolph plays well enough that it doesn't matter what Ben intends to do.

If I were Ben I would also hang around to cash those checks.

I hate to say it, but I thought of that earlier, too.

That's exactly it. The Steelers are stuck paying him whether he is able to get fully healthy or not. That extension they gave him in the offseason looks like a disaster right now.

Yeah I wasn't a fan of the extension, just keeps delaying the inevitable. And now here we are, most likely that is.

It was incredibly stupid to give him 3 years. Should have been 2 tops with the understanding that if he can still play at a high level, he'll get another extension.

He can never play again and still get 40 million.

We'll see if he is even ready to play by next season.

I just have to believe he was paid on past performance and not future potential. Ben's best play was years ago despite what current stats indicate. The extension was mismanagement at it's finest.

My fear is that he comes back as a shadow of his former self and the organization insists on continuing to play him because he is Ben. I am a huge BR fan, but like all the greats, when your done...your done!

According to some experts on here Ben is done, but he's 37 and will retire . Ben is a competitor, and he's not walking away from $68 million.

I dunno - I’m quite surprised he didn’t throw a receiver or two under the bus while he was there...

Maybe his elbow prevented those throws as well. I jest.

This is what I hoped he would say, The Steelers have paid him
well over 200 million for his career. If he is an upstanding man, lets hope he makes a full recovery
and gives 110% in coming back so the Steelers aren't out the full signing bonus.
