We need safety help and while Fitzpatrick has proven to be a great slot guy he has not proven to be a great safety and there are questions about whether he really wants to play safety. I'd be fine with going after him but I am not giving up a first round pick for an unproven guy.

That is a fair point. Obviously, if they lost both long term, it would change the realistic goals for this season dramatically. The Steelers are not going to be able to dig themselves out of an 0-2 hole and making the playoffs without Roethlisberger.

That said, Fitzpatrick would be a long-term investment. He is just starting his second season, so he has two more years with the fifth-year option on his rookie deal. At this point, he's not a great professional player, though part of the issue has been the Dolphins refusing to allow him to settle in at one position.

Edmunds made a play in coverage that our safeties haven't made in years. He actually found the ball and knocked it away. It was incredibly refreshing to see. I think he has some real upside. He would benefit greatly from help at the other spot. Hopefully Davis can get the injuries over with and settle in there. I have not given up on him completely yet.

He was in position on deep balls twice. Once, he was slow to react and only knocked the ball away when he was in position for an interception. The second time, he played the man instead of the ball and drew a killer 38-yard interference call.

Sure, but him knocking the ball away was still better than what I've seen from our safeties in a long time. Baby steps.

If the Steelers do trade for Fitzpatrick, I hope they read the fine print and trade for the right one. Otherwise THIS^^^^^ could be your starting safety.

Why trade for another DB for Butler to ruin, Butler cant scheme defenses to put his players in the best position to win, so why bother until he is gone. And I hope tomlin leaves with him, this coach staff is atrocious....

Possibly we could get him but it's a few others teams that are also in play. Maybe the fact that they will suck and thus have a bad draft pick next yr will entice miami.

Edmunds needed to knock down the ball on the Metcalf TD. He was in position and reached up for it, but he was a tiny bit late.

Yes but just being aware that there is a ball is an improvement on what we've been seeing for years at the safety position.

Edmund is still green, and learning, and that's how he plays. Davis worries me, zero awareness of space or situation. The block in the back on what should have been a defensive TD is a perfect example.

Fitzpatrick is a pipe dream. Last I heard, bidding starts with a 1st rd pick. It’s going to take multiple picks to pry him away.
