I'm not going to put this on McCullers. I'm going to go with scheme.

Looking around at some of the other teams on FG's They tend to not have 2 guys tying to come between the gaps on either side of the Snapper.

Every place kick was the same set-up, but the only penalty came when the snapper didn't fire up into a blocking position. Hell on that one it looks like he was on the guys right and Dupree + someone else was in on the guy's left.

Yes Tomlin in his PC alluded to the penalty being for the center getting hit in the head and neck area.

Is there a penalty when you hit your snapper in the head?

Argue with the rules all you like, but it was the right call and an incredibly stupid penalty by McCullers.

For a now amazingly a veteran MC CULLERS should know the rules by now, a stupid penalty that prolonged the drive and turned FG into a TD ir did he actually miss the FG attempt.

Problem is not the rule. problem is the way they attack the FG try. You're pushing through both gaps at the same time and if you get a good jump, the snapper isn't going to be able to stand up or he delays his standing up just a hair and he's caught down and gets this penalty.

You'd think they'd change the way they coach this by now.

I'd like to understand why the LS is protected. I can't ever remember seeing this penalty called in all of my years watching football. I'm not saying that he didn't do it, or it was called wrong, I just can't say I ever remember it happening previously. Has the LS always been protected on FG tries?

not to mention the play clock had expired before the snap, this is why the NFL, with all its wisdom, misses the most basic concept smacking them in the face, if the play clock hits zero and the refs dont catch it on the field, why doesnt the ref in the booth buzz down and correct it? OR OR, since its a scoring play, review all aspects of the play, IE play clock, etc....seems basic enough to me. This play, FG being good, penalty being called, drive being kept alive would have all been nullified by someone doing their job and seeing that the play never actually happened. This is where fans gets pissed off with reviewable calls, PI calls that arent called that are now reviewable, etc, play cloclk technology isnt new, but why is the NFL so hesitant to get this basic aspect right?

Don't know if he's always been protected by rule, but it's always at least been considered a cheap shot to "can the center" as I've heard it called by guys who played line.

As bad as we were we could have won the game if we did not make a stupid penalty like this or Moncrief does not turn a first down pass into a score for the opposition.

I for one, and possibly the only one, don't believe a team should ever get a roughing the kicker penalty, an offsides penalty or this type of penalty. The odds of blocking a kick are so small, that unless you are in a desperate situation, simply just let them kick the ball.

It is a relatively recent rule change. I think maybe it was before last season.
