Does anyone remember when the Steelers played with physicality?

The pussification of all things, especially football, is on going. I kid you not, former players are talking flag football. It's all about money. Some poor idiot blows all his money and then says it's caused by CTE.

I still have not been able to figure out how you can call "Hitting a defense player" call on a player that has the football?

I fully understand why the call was invented; to protect WRs that were running routes across the middle that did not have the ball; but as soon as the receiver catches the football you have to be able to hit him.

The days of Polamalu and Harrison, ah good times.

TJ Watt now, I would add Hargrave. The rest are finesse types.

When he hit you he meant to do physical harm. You knew you were hit
so he becomes a mismatch because know one wants to be around him.
Because he will make you PAY.

As per John Elway. "As a Bronco rookie in 1983, his debut was traumatic.

On his first play, he looked across the line and saw middle linebacker Jack Lambert of the Pittsburgh Steelers glaring at him.

"He had no teeth, and he was slobbering all over himself," Elway said. "I'm thinking, `You can have your money back. Just get me out of here. Let me go be an accountant.'

"I can't tell you how badly I wanted out of there." Statistically, Elway was awful in that game, completing one of eight passes for 14 yards with an interception. And he was sacked four times.

Give me that style of football again.

BAD bad coaching game one. I think Steelers win next two games for starters and defense will get to where they were.
Tomlin, generally wakes up after a bad game. I really don't blame the players that they get poor game plans that stop success. Any team having their starting safety will help tons too. The defense should be even better this year with Bush the stud IF Tomlin can rebound. You can't have your offense failing on 3rd downs, causing your defense to trot back out on the field in 5 minutes.

Or how about some Glen Edwards, Mel Blount type of football
players. Gosh those were the days. Hell even Ryan Clark would play
physical football. Now we really have nobody willing to lay the wood.

NFL has taken "laying the wood" out of the game. Steelers are still adjusting on their safety play.

They may have taken “laying the wood” out of the game but they didn’t take good defense out of the game.
No, our coaching staff did that all on their own.

You can still play clean hard hitting football, It is not taught correctly
Watch how Nick Saban's players play. They hit hard and legally. They are taught right.
Football is a violent sport played by violent people,

Years ago SI was doing an article on “Violence in football”. Joe Greene said “tackling Earl Campbell, now that’s violence in football”.

How many penalties do you think we would get in today’s football verses the 70’s.
