A potential "dink-and-dunk" nightmare coming in Denver?

Discussion in 'Steelers Talk' started by ScottQ, Sep 7, 2012.

Who will dink-and-dunk more (total attempts) on Sunday night's game?

Question is, which team will wake up with the hangover?

I can see Manning lighting us up for a 40 burger on a dink-and-dunk beat-down like we haven't seen around here for some time.

Yet I can just as easily see an unveiling of our own dink-and-dunk with Haley's imprint felt immediately as we run up a lot of points on the Broncos.

I think initially, we will use our backs more for picking up the blitz and immediately heading up-field looking for the ball. With the speed we have at the receiver position combined with their ability to block down-field, the threat to hit the big play over-the-top and from screen plays makes us (on paper) a formidable threat on offense.

    Thoughts?

Yeah, I think we win 23-13.

I also think Manning will throw a barrage of screens at us. His deep passes seem to be a bit too lofty to chuck it around the field on us. I think we'll see a heavy dose of runs and screens coming out way. We'll be tested for sure.

    :this!: :this!: :this!:

I think with our oline and Von Miller being in the backfield often Ben/Haley will have no choice other then to throw screens and quick slants

I have analyzed this game to the point that my brain is actually kinda numb. I've looked at how they are gonna get penetration on our line with a beast like Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil somehow getting to play. I've considered how the middle of the field is gonna be more open with the absence of Ryan Clark. I've considered much anticipation is gonna be in the air with it being Peyton's first game on how it'll be hostile and they'll be bumping. I've considered how the absence of James Harrison will ease the mind of Peyton Manning. I've tried to determine how we can really utilize Chris Rainey as sort of a Darren Sproles/Dexter McCluster hybrid. And how Todd Haley will be familiar with the Broncos schemes after playing them twice a year in KC. Now after all of this I have reached the conclusion that the winner of this game willl be the team with the most points. Mark my word. You heard it hear and you will NOT find better analysis than that. Remember this post and be amazed.

I've done no research on this, but I do know that Denver has a new defensive coordinator this year.

Wow I didn't know that about Jack Del Rio. He actually knows us pretty good wouldn't you think? I'm not afraid of him though. I've heard the only "film study" he does is of the adult variety if you know what I mean.

Honestly - I'm not afraid of Dink-and-Dunk tomorrow night. Whether or not Peyton Manning is rusty, 100% or whatever, the best way to assure that he doesn't beat you is by making sure he's on the bench. Splash plays make noise, but they do put stress on a defense. So, the best way to run the clock will be the running game and short passing game.

I voted Denver dinking and dunking more. Probably won't be a lot more than us, but it won't be a nightmare for us.
Definitely. Control the clock, execute on offense, keep them guessing at the LOS. Dominate the ground game and set/open up the passing attack. Assume Manning is 100% and keep him on the bench as much as possible.

No not at all. We should have no problem maintaining that kind of excellence for 19 games. As long as we get to play the last ranked D every week we should be fine.
