Matakevitch was never in danger. He is the STs captain. I don't really even consider him a linebacker as the only way he plays LBer is if a ton of things go really, really wrong. I have no issue with keeping him over Holton, who I think probably makes the practice squad or (less likely) is back on the roster if they IR designated to return Ola. Spencer had no shot at making the team.

Colbert can't draft? What is this nonsense? He's one of the better drafters in the NFL.

How do you know that? Did you watch every practice?

My whole point has been these guys get way more snaps through OTAs, minicamp, and training camp such that they form a larger basis for evaluation than preseason games. For all we know Skipper flashed in practice as well as in games.

Yea, I didn't think Matakevich was going anywhere. I question them keeping Justin Layne over Holton more than TM over Holton. But I understand them wanting to protect their draft investment by keeping him off the PS. Holton played well enough to make the team, I hope he sticks around some way.

So how was Holton in practice? Did you watch every practice?

Maybe Holton only showed up during the games. See how that works...

MT has stated repeatedly preseason games matter. I can't count how many times I heard the phrase "in stadium" during MT interviews this year.

They already screwed up by keeping Dobbs so I doubt it. I have a feeling somebody will pick him up.

LOL. You're completely missing the point. He didn't make it despite very good performances in games, thereby providing support that preseason game performance is overrated by us as fans. If it meant as much as we think it does he would have made the team. He didn't.

Skipper on the other hand must have practiced or shown enough in drills for the Steelers to sign him after rookie camp where he was invited as an undrafted FA. That's where you really make your mark. Daily practices. Now that impression can be reinforced in games but on the practice field day after day is where you really make an impression.a

/And blah, blah, blah with what coaches say. Do you really think he or any other coach is going to say preseason games don't really matter? I'm sure the owners would love that.

The point is that both games and practices matter, its actually pretty simple.

To say one or the other doesn't count is asinine. If the games don't matter in evaluations, why risk the player's health? And if a guy balls out in practice but sucks in games, you think he has a good shot at the 53? I don't.

Justin Layne made the team as a gift, this time next year he will be working at Lowes.
Colbert loves the Big Ten / SEC / MAC

I'm glad they kept Skipper and Gilbert, would've liked to see Holton make it though.

When I say Colbert can't draft, I mean he is just mediocre. That is not good enough.

Dobbs don't fit. They do him a solid to let him go to a team better fit to his skill set if there are no trade takers. To hold onto him simply because he was a 4th rd pick (pride maybe?) doesn't do anyone any good. Kid has talent but he's limited period and he isn't gonna be able to maximize whatever he has here due to scheme.
