Will you cry if the kid gets cut? I like him, but he was a 6th round pick for a reason. Love is heart, but all of that stuff you posted could be matched by a lot of guys in camp.

I don't think he gets cut, he has special teams written all over him. His versatility has them trying him all over the place. My fear is that they will cut Nix to save some money and Smith's blocking won't quite be on par with Nix. Going to be interesting to watch.

As I said I like him. I believe he could possibly be as good as Big Red on Sp teams, and his versatility is a plus. What I do not believe is some of the hype being put his way. If he balls out I will be the first to smile, smh, and say I was wrong.

You've posted that before, but I don't think there is any way they cut Nix. I'm sure Smith's reps at FB are very limited in practice and that won't be enough for them to let go of a proven vet. Nix is only getting 1.25Mil.

The simple answer is they want to see if they can use Smith as a backup in case Nix goes down. They usually used a TE before, but Smith is way more athletic.

Yeah but I also thought there was no way Tomlin would keep Verron Haynes over Dan Kreider and still keep Carey Davis as well. In my opinion there is no predicting what floats Tomlin's boat when its roster building time.

I think this dude would have to beat out Chick or Dirty Red, maybe even Nix as a ST Ace... it will be difficult because all three are established.

Rosie Nix is a fan favorite not sure he would get cut, I don't believe Sutton Smith gets
    cut either.

Is Sutton Smith practicing this week?

If he doesn't get into the lineup this weekend I think that will probably be the end of his days as a Steeler.

Very disappointing as I was very excited about this pick. I think he has the talent but he barely practiced all camp.

Even if Sutton Smith plays/practices, he has a lot of ground to make up to catch UG3. Different LB spots but I don't see them carrying Smith over UG3 as it stands two games in. UG3 had 9 ST snaps last week, the same as Chick, Dirty Red, Dangerfield. Only Layne and Spillane had more for defensive guys.

Does everyone think UG3 is a lock?

I think so although the emergence of Skipper may complicate. Once again different positions but tough to keep both of them.

Because of his late start I think Smith ends up on the practice squad. If it comes down to UG3 or Dirty Red, I would pick UG3 but Steelers probably stay with Red.

I truly hope they aren't stupid enough to keep Matakevich and his nonexistent upside over Gilbert.

I agree that Smith seems destined for the practice squad after missing so much time.

Let me just say this about Smith, It doesn't bode well that we are half way through preseason and not only has this 6th rd pick not taken one snap, but nobody even knows for sure what position he MIGHT play.It feels a little Matakevich-esque. People seem to be pulling extra hard for this guy for some reason.

As others have said, there's a reason he was a late Saturday pick.

It was a big spot for him and he came up small. I doubt he makes the team.

Ola and skipper look good. Ola should be back soon. Smith most likely to the practice squad at best.

Smith looked small and weak, offered zero in the run game and is miles behind Ola and Skipper.

He offered a flash of his pass rushing skills but always seemed a step late.

    Practice Squad at best.

Is he wearing #42? Saw highlights that Hall was showing on NFL network and was surprised to see he was subbed in for Bud on one play where TJ destroyed a block and got to the back I believe.

I don't see anyway he makes the tea . Maybe practice squad but he needs to bulk up. Got pushed around in the run game. I honestly thought he was a safety when I seen him out there.

If he needs to make tea to make the team then make the damn tea.

Tomlin likes his tea during morning practice.
