went to pizza hut tonight and had a steelers t-shirt on and our waiter said he was a steelers fan. we got to talking and he said he was listening to mike and mike this morning and adam schefter reported progress in wallce contract talks. he said things look good to get him signed before sunday or the end of next week at the latest. I cant find anything on it. has anyone heard this or is the guy nuts?

Haven't heard but wouldn't surprise me. The more this plays out the more it seems Wallace just didn't want to risk injury during preseason. The Steelers have said all along that once he returns to camp and signs his tender they would restart negotiations, so it sounds like things are right where they should be.

I doubt there will be a deal before Friday. Fri/Sat/Sun? Maybe. I'm thinking it's 50/50.

No,I think wallace has learned his lesson, but if he had I guess he would've signed the contract already.

Based on what? You think he rushed back because he was so eager to sign the contract without negotiating? You think he gave up his quest to maximize his money? He still has almost a week. Why wouldn't he use it? Oh yeah, the Steelers' FO and their players work the exact same as kindergarteners and their mommies.

Only if it is right for the Steelers, Omar will take care of this. They have to be thinking
of the new TV contract coming in a couple years, don't they? Only time will tell.

You guys should just give up hope, and hope Mike can help us win a ring this year. I don't think the Steelers are interested in re-signing Mike unless it's well below market value.

Everything pointed to the Steelers being tired of his "act" during the holdout. They're not going to throw big money at two receivers, Hines is the only one they were willing to keep around all those years. Looks like Brown has replaced him in the way. We have a good track record of plugging in someone new after Plax, Santonio, Nate Washington, etc.

SteelByDesign I am going to disagree. I think a deal gets done either this year or next off-season. They are going to keep both WR's because the NFL is now a passing league. We right now have potentially one of the fastest WR groups in the NFL. In addition with the drafting of Rainey and Haley as OC I think you will see the Steelers use the pass to set up the run. With the rule changes not allowing DB's to really even touch a WR I think a lineup of Wallace, Brown, Sanders, Rainey, Cotchery and Miller give our opponents a definite match up problem. The key is for Haley to call the right play to use them. Look at the 99 yard 2 minute drill vs. Buffalo. That passing attack was a thing of beauty.

not to mention redman, dwyer, batch, saunders, pope, johnson and mendenhall when he gets back. all these guys can burn you if they are unaccounted for. oh, and a healthy ben i might add.

when you have good players you have to pay them. when you have the top players you have to pay them alittle more. we have been doing it on defense for years. i can see a shift coming towards the offensive side of the ball though as far as salaries.

we dropped 4 pretty hefty salaries this year on D. gay, mcfadden which weren't huge but mcfadden didn't see the field much either. smith and farriors were. the new starters cost alot less right now. casey will go next year. so there will be money freed up from the D for the O. why wouldn't they sign another top WR?

PFT links teams cap spcae as of 3 sep ...Steelers have 4.5 wiggle room...but that should include Wallaces tender ..so if he does get something done..he can only do good on a signing bonus cause he can only max out 6-7 mill for base...this year..they are expecting more revenue in future years from tv deals..so maybe a back loaded deal for Mikeyboy..

they usually leave a mil or so for a FA signing if needed. so that will lower it. omar will adjust it to hit in two years when the tv deal goes through. it's the cap room this year and next that are the problems. we have other signings to do then and ben's goes way up too.

oh yea, ziggy, redman, dwyer, clark, mundy, legs, foster, sanders, saunders though maybe not giant but they will be more then this year.

some of this may be the thinking of keeping beachum and lee around. not that i don't think they are good players or will become good players, but they are cheaper then legs and foster will be. we may finally drop max and his 2.5 mil. cap hit too off the books. not signing mendy would more or less pay for redman and dwyer.

I keep reading here that the Steelers won't pay two top receivers and I just think its one of those things said on a message board that sticks. Someone tell me why the hell not? If you have 2 weapons like Brown and Wallace why wouldn't you keep them? Colbert said there is always a way to make room to sign a player, none of us here truly understand the cap and/or how much space the Steelers really have to work with, stop playing GM. What it comes down to is are they willing to? The name of the game is winning SB's, it would be dumb not to sign Wallace just because you already have one great receiver. Wouldn't two make you that much more dangerous and likely to succeed? :goofy:

Agreed. In this era of football outscoring the other team is job one and the old stacked D just isn't the concept it used to be. I am guessing there will be cuts on D after the season to make room for the Wallace deal if it gets done.

Don't forget about the Franchise tag, it could be used as well. That would really make Wallace mad.

I think that is why Wallace and the Steelers will get a deal done. Next year they will franchise tag him which is a bigger cap hit than a what Wallace I think will sign for. So he will be a Steeler for at least this year and next. Should be interesting and I hope they get something done with him.

After this season, your going to see some big money players go. I.E. Harrison, maybe even Ike Taylor.

This would free up room, and therefore the Steelers could afford the franchise tag with Wallace or get him on a longer contract.

anything could happen but that doesn't mean we are off the hook with those contracts. why would we get rid of our best defensive player so we could sign our not best offensive player? lol now that makes no sense to me.

we are sitting on 9.5 mil. in dead money. dropping players still under contract still cost the team. kemo is on the books this year for near 3 mil. they don't just go away.

Your going to eat remaining money on those contracts, but it opens up cap space, expect cap penalty that the team gets, I believe. Plus look at the fact that Taylor is 32 and Harrison will be 34. I'd spring for the 26 year old guy.

    From the article:
From all indications, Wallace wants a contract like the five-year, $55.5 million deal that Vincent Jackson got from the Buccaneers, and he’s not willing to settle for less than that. La Canfora reports that the Steelers would be willing to go to five years and $50 million, with $25 million guaranteed, but Wallace is fixated on making $11 million a year.

    *smh*

if is real let's leave wallace play for 2,7 this year and then tag him next year , we will pay wallace 13 in two years , the money we are saving this year can be roll over in the next cap .
