You never know, they liked MB so much they tried AB? Maybe if Dobbs was a bit more of a head case?

He reminds me of a very young Drew Brees - height (1 in. taller), weight (almost identical), patience and decisiveness. Turned out pretty good for the Saints.

OK - so what latent mental defect don't we know about Dobbs? Just saying...............

Edit: Sorry Stone, we're thinking along the same lines here.

I don't get why people are so high on Dobbs. He is a 1 read and run QB that has a weak arm. I hated the pick when they made it 3 years ago after watching video of him at Tennessee. Nobody can argue his ability to make plays with his feet, running the ball he can be electric, but that isn't enough to be a QB in this league. Dobbs is a backup QB at best.

IF they can get something for him, they should.

I notice you left out the words "round draft pick".

Maybe the Raiders did offer a third for Dobbs.

That’s very optimistic, and I know little about Hodges, but isn’t there a reason he wasn’t drafted?

He hasn't even played against number 1's and he is being compared to HOF QB's :lolol:

I'm sorry, no offense to anyone who likes him, nothing wrong with being excited about a player but these comparisons are a little over the top.

He wasn't drafted because of his size, he went to a FCS school and he played in a spread offense where he threw the ball 50 or 60 times a game so his stats, amazing that they were, were hard to judge.

I hear ya... I'm not anointing him anything other Than intriguing. I'll take that over the dude who hasn't excited me since being drafted. Dobbs is a great kid don't get me wrong but I've already seen enough to know that in the grand scheme of things he's holding clip boards and should probably stay holding them clip boards when his number is called. This new kid may very well be the same thing all truths be told but sometimes the unknown is worth a shot as opposed to the same O'l same. I rooted for Dobbs besting LJ in camp because I already knew LJ was not any sort of answer... Same situation this year that's all.

We'll see but I disagree about Dobbs. I think fans are going to be in for a let down with Hodges, I don't think there is much consideration being give to cutting Dobbs and moving Hodges up. This camp is about who will be the #2, Dobbs or Mason and Dobbs may very well hold onto it.

Mason is getting the start this week, he better seize it.

OK fair enough, both about 6', weigh about 210.........so 2 out of 3 isn't bad for a comparison of Hodges to Brees. After all, they used to tell me that I was tall, dark and....well 2 out of 3 isn't bad. :lolol:

He reminds me of Joe Montana. Or maybe it’s Fran Tarkenton... I don’t know

Yeah, comparisons to great QBs are premature. However he has seized the opportunity so far, and shows the kind of command over an NFL offense that we don’t often see in a rookie, particularly one coming from a spread offense. I think he’s miles ahead of where any of our recent rookie QBs have been after their first two preseason games. If I had to come up with a comparison based on what I’ve seen of him, a guy that comes to mind is Ryan Fitzpatrick.

When all is said and done in this thread I just hope Ben stays healthy for 2 more years. He gives the Steelers a chance for the playoffs. Ben goes the Steelers do not have a QB that will inspire confidence.

I am too old to go through the years we had from Bradshaw leaving and Ben arriving. Should things go south I hope it happens the year that kid from Clemson is ready for the NFL.

If it's not Ben something strange is going on. I'm 99% sure it will be Ben.

You are correct, I must have misread that, 3rd game is always the tune up for the starters.

Maybe they meant after Ben gets pulled it will be Mason instead of Dobbs.

Rudolph would do fine with the starters. Ben is not exactly lighting it up in his later years... he's gonna need a lot of help especially on the D side.

Also... Steelers won't be crappy enough to get the kid from Clemson. He will likely go to a perennial bottom-feeder.... Lions is my guess after Stafford's contract is up. Maybe Titans if Mariota flops this year.

The Clemson QB (Lawrence) won’t be draft eligible until 2021.

Then go with Tampa, they are always in the bottom feeder conversation.

Arians did a good job when he was at Indy and Arizona. Maybe he will turn things around for Tampa.
