166 yards and 3 TD's. Also Kordell Stewart was 0 for 10 passing that day. That's right he didn't complete a pass.

    E. All of the above. ( cheating gives them one times the advantage, coaching gives them three times the advantage )

Exactly. I don't get too worked up about things I can't see with my own eyes or touch with my own hands. The Patriots cheating is all but obvious but we could still beat them if we had good coaching.

I would love it if the team ran on to the field carrying a big flag, and on the flag there was just a giant asterisk.

    E. They've been the better team over that timeframe. Hard truth.

And yeah, coaching is the difference. Belichik is so far ahead of everyone it's not even funny. Neither Cowher nor Tomlin was/is close, but no shame in that. Who is?

I also think their talent over the last 20 years has been somewhat underrated and we've had a tendency to overrate our own (like every other fanbase). Since 2000 they've had 33 different players make at least one Pro-Bowl, the exact same number as the Steelers.

I don't put much stock in the cheating angle. Every team is doing everything they can, including stealing signs as Cowher himself said the Steelers did. Yeah, yeah,yeah...Spygate. It was barely cheating. It's not against the rules to film the opposing coaches signaling plays. What was illegal was that you can't do it from your sideline, so it wasn't the filming, it was where they filmed from. BFD.

Our chances would be about zero if it were not the first game because it is possible the Death Star will not be at full operational efficiency. Also, The Evil Emperor has not had a chance to scheme against how we intend to throw against them without Brown. If they play below par and Ben airs it out with no picks, we have a chance. I would imagine Washington having a huge day. On defense Bud and Bush would have had to make some plays. If all that happened, we could win in a relatively high scoring game like 35-28 in a best case scenario. Odds of that very low, but possible for this one game.

I can't speak for others but I don't tend to be a homer. I honestly believe that for the past few years our talent was better. But when the three ring circus is more important than the game, talent doesn't mean much.

    That's not unreasonable.

All I'm saying is that I don't think the talent gap, if one exists at all, is or has been as big as most Steelers fans believe, especially over the last 20 years.

The small sliver of hope to which I am clinging to pull off the upset is with regards to the 2015 meeting which was also the season opener. The Steelers actually bested the Patriots in yards and T.O.P., and only committed 1 turnover. However, they inexplicably refused to cover Gronk who averaged 19 ypc and scored 3 TDS on 5 receptions, and that was the ballgame.

Winning this game would be unbelievable. A conference win, a head to head victory over the Pats in their back pocket, exercising their demons in Foxborough...it would be too good to be true...

Which is why I won’t let myself envision it actually happening.

One thing to keep in mind is that BB will barely be in pre-season form - look at the Browns opener last year (please don't). Perhaps MT and Andy Reid still have that 'Enemy of my Enemy" rapport that Cowher and Schottenheimer had before big games and Andy will pass on some trade secrets. Obviously this needs to happen.

And some people still think Kordell could have been a good QB “if used properly”.

Ball control is paramount to beating the Patriots, in my opinion. Hopefully without a certain malcontent demanding his touches, the Steelers can do that and keep Brady off the field. Use Connor/Samuels/Snell and keep the clock ticking on long, methodical drives.

That might be the reason they were 9-0 at home last season including the playoffs and a dismal 3-5 on the road.

There’s a lot of room in some cases. I’ve been in a few of them and had time to look around. I even found a motorcycle once. ;)
