After Tues, when DeCastro is placed on the 8 wk IR do we bring in Farrior. Our LB corp is thin, VERY thin for a 3-4 team. Is there a better option out there other than Farrior we might bring in?

    :lolol:

If not Farrior, I see Greg Jones just got cut from the NY Giants according to PFT. Jones was a stud in the Big 10 with Michigan St and was actually the day 1 starter last year at ILB but lost his job. Could be worth a look. We have to do something, we are razor thin at ILB.

I would bring in another guard or tackle, the Oline needs help, we have 11 or 12 linebackers on the roster right now, why bring in another one who we already cut because he is in decline, if we cant have depth at linebacker with the 11 or 12 we already have, we are really doing something wrong signing this many players and then complain about depth..

Seeing as Spence and his roster spot are a vital part of Special Teams, Farrior is not a good replacement.

I would be comfortable with Brandon Johnson being the #1 backup at ILB.

the learning curve on james is ... ZERO.... and someoen said he can step right in... not only step in buttttttttttt run the D ... we need someone that knows the D and can be the QB of the D from that position.. and im sure hes in great condition... why get some guys from other teams that cant run our D next weekend.. James can run it right NOW .. even if a guy is maybe slightly better . his knowledge is worth more than that...

I guess it depends on what you want to fill his position with from the perspective of role. Whoever goes in that slot should be someone that gets sat down every week anyway. I think we are going to see a ton of movement on our roster this year.

I think he should be a lock to make it now that Spence is done.

More likely they will just re-sign Mortly Ivy.

Would Farrior even want to come back?

So if Ike goes down, should we get Lebeau to strap on a helmet. He was a great DB once, and he knows the defense pretty well.

    Only kidding

Had Farrior officially retired or was he looking around for another team? I lost track.

I also forgot that part of why Ivy was cut already on the Tuesday round was because he was injured.

    Ah, dammit, you're right.

I do, however, have faith that we have enough talent in the young corps to cover for Spence's injury. Granted, they won't be as good, but serviceable nonetheless.

Exactly - he got released. Didn't retire and leave - he was cut. Might not put him in the best of moods to come back - even if the team asked him.

Have you guys watched Farrior play the last 2 seasons he's done can't cover anybody in the passing game.

He outplayed Foote all of last season  And he's not that bad in pass coverage. He's been made to look like an ass by being put in man coverage against Ray Rice. He shouldn't be asked to do that. He's still fine in zone and still fine against the run (at least he was last we saw him. I don't know if he lost or gained 100 pounds since then). Jeez, in 2011 he was better than our current starter, and in 2012 you don't think he's good enough to be our backup?

Sorry for those who favor bringing back Farrior but 37 is 37 and father time is undefeated. I don't think he can cover backs and TEs as well as Foote anymore so bringing him back from a performance standpoint isn't smart. The loss of Spence isn't as big a deal as some are making it out to be because it doesn't affect the Steelers on the first three downs. The conditioning and lack of reps for Worilds and Harrison are much more of a concern. As far as depth goes, hopefully it won't be long before Sylvester is ready to go.
