Is our special teams as bad as it seems?

I know this is just preseason but we have penalties on EVERY kick return, this along with the short kickoffs really do have me worried that we will continue to be put in deep holes. Thoughts?

 

8 times outta 10 you will have penalties on kicks...especially punts...block in the back and holding on those are some of the most called penalties. I thought ST looked better tonight...Rainey got to show what he could do...especially with the blocking he got/moves he made. They recovered a fumble. Made a long FG kick. While some of the KOs werent great...but thats what we get with Suisham...he doesnt consistently kick them out of the endzone.

 

Keep in mind the leader of our special teams was just most recently fired. So the assistant just took over in the last week..

And yes it would make a difference. Rainey returning two kicks for TDs with penalties would infuriate me to the point where I would be incensed as I am sure CT is now.

Mundy was called on one of the infractions and I don't remember who was the other but Mundy is not new to the system

Special teams is a matter of attitude, you must WANT to play them, desire, like to hit people
and be hit. C'MON Steelers lets show some of these traits. We gotta have some players
on these squads that want to make a contribution?

 

They had two touchdowns called back on penalties(which happen, quite often on a punt return). They didn't allow a splash play, they made the only Field Goal they attempted. I was happy about last night with Special teams.
