Fridge was literally 50% bigger than Sutton. :smiley1:

I lived in Chicago for 5 years during the Fridge era. He was a lot of fun to watch.

Perry was also very good defensive tackle. If I remember correctly, he played a good bit as a reserve on a loaded defense in 1985 and eventually became a solid starter.

Loved almost everything about the Fridge, but still miffed that Ditka called on the Fridge to run in the TD instead of Payton. Really a huge disrespect to a man who was the only reason for Bears fans to cheer for many years.

I hear yah but Perry was a huge part of the marketing for the team that year. It was a business decision IMO (I wouldn't be surprised if that was the owner's play... Seriously)

I doubt Ditka would have listened to anybody at that point. It was all him. I had remembered that Perry had a one-yard touchdown run in that game, but I had forgotten it was the Bears' final touchdown that day. They had three touchdowns of two yards or less in that game, two by McMahon and the one by Perry.

Guess I should have specified the TD run in the Super Bowl.

While I lived there I met a young lady who was a nutritionist. She was hired by the Bears to help keep the Fridge’s weight under control. Through no fault of her own, she failed miserably. Food was his downfall.
