I agree with the "getting into the flow of the game" theory, but today's NFL is more worried about production. If Samuels and Snell have to eat grass and chew nails to get ready for their opportunities, they better have good dental plans! I just don't see MT pulling Connors out if he is being productive. I think MT only sees carries as a reward and not a tool.

I am wondering if Samuels will see more time at TE. I feel they have over looked the #2 TE spot and asking Grimble to fill in for James imo is a lot to ask. This could open the door more for Snell, but you are right if they don't that battle will be a good one.

I think I saw where Samuels dropped some weight this offseason, I don't know if this was at the coaches' request but I'm sure it was discussed. So if the team wanted him more at TE I would think he'd stay the same or try to pack some muscle on. Idk though, I just don't see Samuels at TE. And I don't see Grimble as a James replacement either. TBH if Vanimal goes down we are S.O.L at that position. They will be scouring the waiver wires of course but that's always a crap shoot as well.

I agree. Samuels may have offered some TE versatility in college but it won’t translate to the NFL

I think Christian is still on the roster. He and Gentry could be some tall trees to hide Switzer behind

Yeah I agree about Samuels but I really think they want to use him in the passing game more. This is where I am thinking he will end up playing some TE, jmo. I so agree about if Vance goes down but that is a topic for another thread right, lol?

Maybe make another trade like when they acquired Vance.

They aren't standing pat though, they put in a waiver claim for Jordan Leggett but lost out to Tampa.

This seems like a cool drill with some solid real world applications. Is the boxing glove on a stick new this year? Saw several pictures and videos where coaches have them and try to punch the ball loose.

could have sworn I've seen that before but I'm not sure. Might have been another team too. That's a tough drill, I like it.
I still like the football on a stick they use to simulate the snap.

Everyone has a role, my thoughts -

Connor is your "starter". gets most of the carries on 1st and 2nd down.
Samuels will be the 3rd down back in any 3rd and long situation. He has good hands and can block when needed.
Snell will be the short yardage/goal line back.

It's an ideal setup that should keep everyone relatively healthy and play to each of their strengths.

I believe James Connor led the ACC in touchdowns his Junior season. He knows how to get in the end zone.

I'd also rather have him on the field on third down. Yes, Samuels is a better receiver, but Conner is the better blocker. He was excellent in blitz pick up last season. Samuels was inconsistent at best.

If Samuels can make the same strides in that area from his rookie year to his second season that Conner made last year, then make the switch on third downs.

Not gonna happen ...Connor will at the very least get over 75% of the snaps

A year ago the knock on Conner was his blocking. Amazing what a year “can” do.

You basically said it yourself. Makes sense to take or add a running back when the injury factor to running backs is considered.

I believe that RB's need a certain number of carries to be more effective and get into the flow of the game.

This exactly. If you want running back from Committee it should not come from Conner having less carries. It will have to come from taking the ball out of Ben and Ju Ju’s hands and giving it to your number two or three running back. If anyone thinks that makes sense, go for it.

That makes perfect sense but what do you think 'the leader of this team' would rather do, run or pass...

The greatest QBs usually want to throw the damn ball.

    ... more often than not.
