Every year, you, I, and most everyone says........as long as we stay healthy.

    Then someone gets hurt.

Maybe it's less about who we lose and more about who we keep.

That is true Mac, and PFF Reports our break out player this year will be Terrell Edmunds:

    1. The Pittsburgh Steelers' top three picks from 2016—cornerback Artie Burns, safety Sean Davis and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave—have yet to take off and didn't look to be on the verge on stardom in their third seasons. Three of the team's first four picks from 2017—outside linebacker T.J. Watt, wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and running back James Conner—were Pro Bowlers in 2018, while the fourth—corner Cameron Sutton—has hardly seen the field.

That leaves a small pool of potential Pittsburgh breakout players to get excited about, especially after second-round receiver James Washington struggled as a rookie in 2018.

But one player who has the ability to make a big jump from Year 1 to Year 2 is 2018 first-round safety Terrell Edmunds, who recorded 78 tackles, four passes defensed and an interception while starting 15 games last season.

Edmunds wasn't a headliner as a 21-year-old rook, but as PFF notes, the Virginia Tech product "delivered some solid performances in the second half of the season."

If he can pick up in September where he left off in December after a productive initial full offseason, Edmunds could become a tremendous asset to the Steelers defense in 2019.

PFF doesn't know what the heck they're talking about, Hargrave had his best season in 2018, I think he had 8 sacks last season.

Hargrave had 6.5 sacks in 2018, but I certainly have at least as much faith in him as I do in Edmunds as a breakout candidate.

I honestly think the loss of Munchak will have a minimal effect. If the O-line was young and developing I'd feel differently, but it's essentially filled with veterans in their prime.

Of the others that are gone, meaning players, here's my $0.02, FWIW.

AB: Addition by subtraction. Gonna miss his on field production obviously, but I truly believe the Steelers are better off without him and all the damn drama and distraction.
Bell: Hard to miss someone who wasn't there last year.
Gilbert: Can't help the club from the tub, as they say. He only played 5 games last year. Minimal overall impact.
    Burnett: No.
    Bostic: No.
James: He's a candidate for "most missed" because Grimble hasn't shown much, McDonald has been injury prone in the past, and Gentry is a total project (12 bench reps? Really?).

I can't recall right now who else is gone from last year's roster, but the guy I've settled on as most impactful loss from last year's team is LJ Fort. The guy was a great special teams player and got quite a few defensive snaps especially as the season went along. There were a few weeks where he led all LB's in defensive snaps taken. He showed he could cover and serve as a very capable backup ILB. If Bush struggles in coverage or Williams gets dinged up, we're really going to miss him, IMO.

It really amazes me how many people are fooling themselves regarding Brown.

I recall PFF calling Hargrave our “secret superstar” recently. I generally like PFF, but they can be pretty inconsistent in what they say.

Not bad considering he only played 43% of the snaps.

This post is interesting. Who do you think is our 'secret' superstar Steel_Elvis or anyone else?
My first thought was Watt but he's not so secret anymore. Hargrave may be our best player flying under the radar imo.

I agree with Hargrave the past couple of years. He is very underrated/overlooked by the mainstream media and NFL fans. To some extent Mike Hilton as well, but to a much lesser extent than Hargrave.

I don't think Mike Hilton is underrated at all. He got some attention two years ago, especially with the three-sack game. If I remember correctly, that was in prime time. Then his level of play dropped off last season.

Hilton did cross my mind also. Let's hope it wasn't a flash in the pan. He has played at a very high level for being an udfa.

... when he's on the field. I'd like to see how many snaps he averaged for all games in 2018.
