Pretty much agree. Tomlin believes in running wheels off his RB, so Connor gets the ball unless he's hurt or needs a breather. Besides if you gonna throw nearly 700 times a season, it gets hard to share the carries too much.

Of course it's going to happen, Conner always gets nicked up, Snell gets 7-10 carries a game.

Yes and the idea would be not to throw the ball 700 times.

I'll believe it when I see it. I think Conner will get 97% of carries.

Samuels is the best receiver of the three RBs, he might come in on 3rd and long, Snell will get his share of the carries maybe some short yardage plays.

3 headed monster please. We can definitely go run by committee and probably have James conner still hit 1k yards.

    Bell
    Archer
    Blount

sorry my mind went to 2014 when I wrote a similar post lol

    the bulldozer benny
    the smooth sailor Jaylen
and the terminator John Conner lol

Last season, a Steeler 2nd RB got more than 4 carries in a game only 3 times. Two of these were the routs of ATL and Car where backups got lots of carries late. The 3rd was vs Oak, the first game after Connor got hurt and they split carries between Samuels and Ridley, probably in an attempt to determine which one was better suited to carry the load.

In 2017, Bell has 321 carries, Connor 32 and Ridley 26. And most of Ridleys carries came in the season finale, when Bell and other starters say out.

Right or wrong, the Steelers have been a long way from RB-by-committee and radical departures from status quo are not their style. Especially when the coaches don't change.

As I said yesterday in a another thread,Tomlin never knew how to do a rotation with his RB since he is the head coach.

Could be something in tune with how Saints use Kamara/Ingram. Conner filling the role of Ingram and Samuels catching passes like Kamara. Then Snell in short yardage and goal line.

At least thats how I'd do it.

Missed the opportunity when DeAngelo Williams was tearing up the turf. Perfect scenario for a two headed monster back field but instead they tried to appease a selfish malcontent.

It isn't that he doesn't know how to rotate but rather he hates pulling a guy that has worked hard and is being successful in favor of a cold running back. He wants guys to finish what they started so that urge to yank a player just isn't there.

In order to use running back by committee with these three backs they will need to get them enough carries that they are in the flow and effective. Otherwise you have cold backs being less effective with an oline starting to rip holes.

MT has had ample opportunities to use multiple backs that were chewing up yards at certain points of the season and they were sidelined individually in favor a feature back system that yielded decent results but not effective enough to wear a defense down as much as they could with a two back system. JMHO.

I actually think they might try that and I'll tell you why. Connor is a really good back but he suffers from fumblitis and isn't the best pass catcher. I can see a scheme in which he is a 1st and 2nd down back with Snell in for 3rd and short or Samuels as the back in 2nd and long or 3rd and 3 or more.

That's a fan perception and not really accurate. He has no more fumble problems or problems catching the ball than most other starting backs in the league.

Picking Snell in the fourth makes no sense at all if they don’t intend to use him. I expect that Conner is very much RB 1 with Samuels deployed often as both receiver and RB and Snell getting some carries also. The biggest question around Conner is his durability. If you give him 20 carries a game he is virtually guaranteed to get hurt.

The run / pass ratio will probably be more leaning towards the run this year now that AB is not there so more carries to go around.

Use Conner and samuels and let Snell get carries to close out games early in the season. At that time, rest some of our aging linemen and starting TE. It gets the young guys exposure and rests our older guys for the long season. Get those leads in games and hopefully the defense is improved enough to allow this.

Samuels and Snell won't get much work unless Conner is injured. I don't see popcorn changing his philosophies.

I'm thinking - the bigger the font used to make a point, the more true it must be. Kind of like ALL CAPS, but slightly less annoying. :hehehe:

They run zeke elliot hard ever since they drafted him in 2016, in 2016 he had 322 carries, in 2017 when he was suspended 6 games, in 10 games he still had 242 carries and last year he had 304 carries, he is a smaller back than connor but they still run him hard every year, I dont see MT letting up on connor any time soon, 300 plus carries this year is in the cards for connor if he holds up, thats tomlins normal forte and thats what it will be this year.....
