Can't say I disagree here - except I still don't get it. We joke about "Tomlinisms" and Tomlin is one who constantly talks about players playing "above the line" and "below the line". Well, I would say that LAST in the league in FG percentage and near last in touchbacks sounds pretty BELOW the line. It seems that they are satisfied with mediocrity at this one position.

Also, I don't care if it's a 37 yard field goal or a 47 yard field goal, every time Suisham comes onto the field, I close my eyes. It's just a mystery to me that they wouldn't seriously look for someone better.

Sushi has been terrible in every season where he's played more than half the games. I made a post about that in another thread. In seasons where he's playing in 1/2 or less he's had great numbers. (small sample size) In seasons where he's had more than 1/2 the games he's been 75%. Why wouldn't you give a kid the shot who has at least shown you he can hit 40+ yarders down the middle and blast it through the endzone?

I agree that I wanted him to be kept.

Hrapman will be picked up by another team before the season starts. There are too many mediocre kickers out there and he has shown to be quite dependable so far as a place kicker and with his kick offs.

I'm still not sold on Suisham.

I'm with you totally. I think it actually might even be unfair to Suisham but every time we have an important kick to make I just cringe until it's through the uprights. I'm sure he makes more than he misses but I just always feel like he's gonna miss when it "matters".

Second Ravens game last year! Tomlin wasn't sure Sushi could kick a long one late in that game and the delay of game penalty pushed the attempt back to a 51 yarder, which was a definite no-go. (Of course DJ's drop didn't help that situation either)

I believe he missed on in the Houston game as well. It wasn't that he lost the games, but that he changed the dynamic of the games at the end. How many times has it been where that one fieldgoal makes the lead more than one score and he missed it? I can recall at least 3 games that we were sweating out at the end.

During the Texans game...he was 1 for 2. The first was a 30 yarder that was blocked. 10-0 Texans with 7 seconds left in the half. The second was a 26 yarder that was good at the start of the 4th quarter.

Suisham was indeed terrible at field goals, but his kickoffs were pretty good. He only had the 25th best touchback percentage, but a lot of that can depend on the returner. He had the 7th best average yards per kickoff. Perhaps the disconnect is to do with returners, perhaps he's less booming but more consistent. When I evaluated him I was very pleased with his kickoffs. And he probably has a slight disadvantage, doing so many kicks at Heinz.

The block wasn't his fault, either. A man came in completely untouched. He was supposed to be blocked by... by..................

    .......................David Johnson.

Ya got me. I was looking at his game logs again and it seems his misses were mostly in games that didn't really need them to win. He did sport a 74% average last year and it's not the first time he's been that bad. I don't see how he "proven" anything when his stats are hohum.

Then you kind of understand when you look at Danny being 5'9" 165lbs. Not someone you'd be comfortable with out there on the field trying to be the last man.

Agreed, except for the Kicker debate, where I will quickly say, I thought Hrapman earned a chance to compete for another week, and inspired more confidence, than makin my stomach go "Suisham"... (Forget which poster to thank for that gem, but it was good)...
The only one that slightly surprised me was Morty Ivy.. Didnt know he was hurt, but hadn`t really been paying enough attention, to see if he merited making the team or not. Just knew we had high hopes for him.
    Also, I`m curious about Jolley...
Does he have an older brother in the league?
The name is ringing a bell in my head, but I can`t quite place it... Lineman for the Raiders, maybe?
For the most part, yeah, just a quick 15 to get rid of...
Hard to make a team with as much talent as we have, even with injuries... :herewego:

Yeah, he's a small man on the field.
I don't think anyone's mentioned Neil Rackers, yet. He was cut by the Redskins today. I've mentioned many times on here that Suisham makes me nervous. I often hold my breath when he kicks. Hopefully he's gained some confidence this offseason, because it seemed a little wavering last year. Bottom line though- he's ours barring injury. As I mentioned earlier, he's got a cap hit of over 1.6M this year. They aren't going to throw that away if he's got a good working leg unless they have to. Hopefully, this offensive unit won't have to rely on his leg as heavily this year.

I don't know what TTF is talking about as far as Hrapman is concerned. He should still be on the roster, especially since the last pre-season game is at Heinz. If the kicking conditions are not good on Thursday, it is the perfect situation to have Hrapman kick. What were they thinking about? This move was to soon. We all know that Suisham is not the long term answer for this team. Both Butler and Hrapman have done pretty good this pre-season. I hope they don't make the same mistake with Butler. He should be the kicker because he has preformed well this pre-season and it would be ashame if they just give it to Kaponis.

As far as the McFadden guy is concerned, good ridence before we even get to the season. I saw enough of him to know that he was just like the McFadden that they cut.

Since I'm also an FSU fan I was rooting for Rolle too. The guy is super smart and should probably hang up his cleats and concentrate on using his brain instead.

He's got his whole life to do whatever he wants. This is his only chance to play football. I'm assuming he likes it. And the money! I'm sure he'd have no problem getting a decent job, but if he can just catch on somewhere as a special teamer or practice squad member, he'll be raking it in doing what he loves. Having that money won't hurt when it's time for him to retire while in his 20s.

I just noticed Kyle Jolly's name.

Poor old Kyle Jolly - isn't that like three camps in a row he's been cut?

Ok.....for one, cunditt or however you spell his name is playing for the redskins now. Now, suishum suck and I was hoping he got hurt because that's the only way they will hold on to the right guy. Now unless one of the backup qbs get hurt we will release Johnson(qb) as well. Sometimes decisions have to be made for the Steelers.

Releasing Johnson would be a big mistake. Putting him on the PS would not be a safe place for him either because another team would get him before the season is over. The best scenario for the team would be to cut Batch and make him a special assistant with the QB's and keep Leftwich and Johnson on the 53. If either of the QB's get hurt, they can bring back Batch with no problem. Lets face it, no other team is going to sign a 36 year old back-up QB which means Charlie will always be availabe. I feel this is his last year anyway.

Johnson could be Bens back-up for the rest of Bens career.

Exactly, but for some reason the coaches are not seeing this senerio.Last year ,for example , dixon was only held onto because lefty broke his arm.Mind you, lefty had a bad preseason last year but he wouldve made the cut if he had not broken his arm.Suishaum shouldve been cut last year as well. This year we wouldve had david johnson instead of will johnson even though will is better, but it took an injury to force the steelers hand.
