Ok wallace is here so what now? Does he think a deal can get done or is he really gonna play for 2.7 million and leave after season? Can we get him signed in a week? I am not really good at understanding this cap stuff. I normally don't care. I want him here for a long time but i am nit sure it is possible. Anyone think they get a deal done??

They can get a deal done with him, but it will have to be a very rear loaded contract. With more of the money in the later years. They don't have very much room right now and need a low amount this year. After the season there will be a huge fire sale on older players. Let's put it this way if Wallace gets signed to a long term contract you can basically say goodbye to Harrison, Hampton, and maybe even Ike Taylor or Ryan Clark.

He'll go cash those mediocre checks while hoping he doesn't get injured trying to have a great season so that next year he can try and smell that Fitzgerald bling.

    Nothing else to see here.

I think the writing on the wall is there for Hampton with the play of McClendon and drafting of Ta-amu. Harrison I think is on the fence this year. Depending on his year and his health will determine next year. Not so sure about Taylor and Clark being gone after the year, unless they really have a terrible year.

I wouldn't be surprised that the FO doesn't lock him up before the game in Denver. They just have a way of getting things done.

Its possible they will get something done...Khan is awesome and I wouldnt be surprised if they have an offer or 2 ready to send over to Mike's people and all. And i wish people would let the Fitz money thing go...he never said that himself...its already been stated...jeeez.

Agree. Unless he just wants a crazy number, he'll have a new contract by the end of the year.

Not signing a new deal now is a real gamble for him. If he does not have a stellar season or gets injured, his chance for a big deal is gone. He needs to be smart about this. A big deal as a FA next year could be realized, but he will also be a year older and if he loses his speed in a few years, he will be a cap casualty for whoever signed him to that deal and he could lose out in the long run.

Smart thing to do is get the best deal he can now, maintian performance to the end of the deal.

Watch Omar Kahn work his magic, or not! By the way, I think the Rooney's better
do right by Omar, or it is off to Cleveland for this guy, he will run the Browns for the new owners
up in that wasteland they call NE Ohio,

He'd better have a new contract by next Saturday or he'll have to wait until the off-season. The Steelers don't negotiate contracts during the season.

And by the way, I'm really curious to see how many on this MB think his contract should exceed AB's contract. What do you think?

Wallace has not left himself enough time to earn a new contract...Coach T wants to see where he is,he needs to see how far along he is,he wants to see if he can make the adjustments the new O needs him to make.....In turn Wallace won't have enough body of work to earn a contract before the season starts...

He's talk about Omar Khan. Khan is the team's Director of Business & Football Administration, and has been the team's capologist since 2001. In other words, he's the guy behind the contracts and salary cap management.

What about his body of work leading up to this season [/quote:utjqa3xi]

That Body of work had a price tag on it...Wallace refused it and the Steelers took that offer off the table.....Similar to deal or no Deal Wallace has picked 2 of the big money cases so his next offer will be less at this point....To get a better offer he will need to open some snall cases 1st...Meaning showing he is in Football shape, showing he knows the new O,showing he understands the playbook. and one other huge hurdle....Show he is ready to do these things inside a NFL stadium....

The only way Wallace gets a new deal is if he excepts a lower offer than he had on the table a few months ago...Wallaca has done nothing for that offer to go up .....As I stated the Offer is lower at this time.....IMO no way will he take it...

i just don't see mike taking #2 WR money and the steelers are smarter then to offer it to him. everyone thinks they will just franchise him next year so it's OK. thats not the case. do you know how much the franchise tag would be by next year for a WR? yea, well i don't know either, but if i was a bettin man, i'd have to say it's more then this year which was close to 10 mil. we would have had to pay him. they can't take that type of hit next year either. i expect they will get something done before that time comes. i don't know why everyone thinks they should see how he does first and then make an offer. it doesn't work that way. this tender is the only way that works. they can see this year what he can do for a lesser amount, but that is no guarentee he then stays when the next offer is made. is that a chance they want to take?

Thats not how it works pwp. You don't wipe a guys career clean because you failed to reach an agreement during earlier negotiations. They know what they have in Mike, they don't have to see another single snap. Plus, the Steelers negotiate in good faith and the tactic you laid out is nothing short of sleezy negotiations, not the Steelers way. If Wallace is really in the Steelers plans a they say he is, look for a new deal before the season starts, and you can bet it will be more then Browns contract. If not, he will play out this year on his tender and be with a new team next season.

How has Wallace earned a higher contract than a few months ago?He has not....No way will the Wallace cntract exceed Brown's...Brown had a better year last year than Wallace as the Team voted,Brown has had a stellar pre season without Wallace, the only way Wallace gets a bigger contract than Brown is if he has a monster season 1st..

When Wallace was offered the Tender instead of the Tag multiple Teams expressed that they wished it was Brown....Brown is the more complerte WR and deserves more money than Wallace does....How would it look to the rest of the Team if you pay a hold out more than the Team MVP esp. being they play the same position?

Oh yes it is. Haven't you heard? Wallace has angered the Steelers and they will now punish him by lowering their number!! Or so I've read here.

Whats wrong with the contract that was offered to him originally? If that 5/50 was accurate why can't they just negotiate around that number? And why are you taking into account such a small sample size when determining Wallaces value? He played more then just last year didn't he? Put up pretty good career numbers hasn't he? And Wallace and Brown pretty much had mirror seasons last year just one was hot in the first half and the other was hot in the second half. Wallace finished with 1193 yards and Brown 1108 (which by the way isn't a better year). Not to mention how much Brown benefits from Wallace being double teamed. For the record, I like Brown better then Wallace, light years more but don't thinkk for one second that Wallace isn't going to make more then Brown. Again, this is the Steelers, they are classy, they didn't reduce his tender when they had the chance they aren't going to low ball him now that negotiations have resumed, they will pay him his worth and it is universaly believed that Wallace is on the playing field of Vincent Jackson, 50 million range. The question is, will Wallace take it.

Are you saying that hypothetically, like, "in a perfect world"? Or are you saying that's how it is? Because that's not how it is. At all.

I never said they should low ball Wallace...I don't think they will ,but a highly doubt he will get the same offer he had on the table....He missed OTA'S,he missed camp, and no one knows how well he knows the playbook....I am sure the Team will put another offer on the table close to the Brown one,I am also sure Wallce will still not take it....

Plus when I said Brown had a better year than Wallace he did...He was a better blocker at WR by far,he made more tough catches in traffic,he made more 3rd. down conversion catches than Wallace...Not to mention what Wallace did for us on ST'S.....The bottom line is his peers voted him MVP and not Wallace simply because they believe he was more valuable to the Team than Wallace....I agree with them...
