When he goes no Huddle / Hurry Up / Muddle Huddle as opposed to going to a full huddle.

I just watched that final 98 yard drive of the first half against buffalo when he only had 1:55 on the clock and 1 timeout and he was definitely in the zone. Result 7 points 99 yards 1 minute 42 seconds.

Why not just go hurry up til we can establish a big lead. I know it wears on the Defense but go to it early and often just to see possible quick points.

By the way it drove me nuts over the years with him snapping the ball at 3 -2 -1.

    Thoughts?

I think hurry-up/no-huddle offense works as a good change of pace. Doing it more than not can put our defense against the ropes if there are not enough sustained drives throughout the game. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah. If it worked all the time there'd be no reason not to do it. It doesn't though, and a no-huddle failure can be an astonishingly short break for the defense. Long, sustained drives are just as awesome when they work.

I do agree though that I think we could use more of it as a change of pace, instead of just when the clock is running out. I wouldn't say no to one random no-huddle drive per game. I always like doing it to start a game. You get a first down, you go for it. You don't, you forget about it.

Agreed. I think Ben is exceptional running the no huddle. However, we can't put undue strain on our defense. Ball control. Time of possession. That's how you win ball games.

I think we are by far at our best when in the no-huddle. As long as we can mix in some draws and delayed hand-offs it shouldn't effect the "D". Buffalo did pretty well out of the K-gun back in the 90's and it didn't hurt their defense. If we can get a lead with it the other team's offense becomes one dimensional which would help our defense. I think Ben flourishes when given control.

I think there are times when it makes sense to run the NH. Ben is very good at it. I would think when you know you have an extra commercial break coming up at a possession change and you can get into it with everyone. It can really throw a D for a loop. I am a big proponent of using it when the O just looks sluggish and out of sorts. It is a way to jump start an offense. I get frustrated watching an O go through the whole half barely able to get anything done and then we get the ball with 2 minutes left and we look like the world's best offense, then 2nd half we look much better. Give the O about 3 possessions...if nothing happens, throw this in there.

I think most of the replies here sums this one up quite well.

I wouldn't say he's better, just that it opens more up to him. I don't think he's the classic "cerebral" player and does a little better when it's up-tempo.

Beat me to it numbah, Buffalo ran it and their D was one of the tops in the league. I don't think the Steelers are going to run it like the Bills did but Haley and Ben are on record as saying they plan on using it more often, I like the idea.

    Yup!!!
Nothing says Ben can`t call enough run plays, or shorter passes, to make it a clock consuming drive, even if he does it from the no huddle. (Other than the fact that he hasn`t usually done that.)
It could be pointed out to him by his new O.C.... "You wanna run the no huddle?, Then chew some clock up, while you do it, and we`ll let you keep doing it..." :good: :yeehaw:

You have to have the lineman to run no huddle consistently, the Steelers DO NOT.

I don't think the line is any more inferior than it has been the last 4 or 5 years. As one sportswriter put it, "Ben will take unnecessary hits even if he had 5 Hall of Famers in front of him. That's just how he rolls." I think we will see lots of screens, draws and shorter routes to cover the line deficiencies. We'll be fine.

If it works and we have all witnessed Bens success with the no huddle I say they should do it more often then that last two minutes before the half.

With the talent we have this year with Wallace, Brown, Sanders, Cotchery and Miller we could see games where our offense puts up 30 points or more.

I think Ben is better than he used to be all around....It seems he is working on reading the D'S better,he is starting to find the 1 on 1's earlier....IMO Ben is on his way to becoming the Complete QB he shold have been years ago...

IMO the way that Haley is coaching Ben will do wonders for his game and this Offense as a whole....

I think a lot of teams aren't really "better" in the no huddle. It's all the defenses that fall apart during the no huddle.

Our secondary falls to pieces in the no huddle. (from the pieces it already was)

    haha

    Exactly right.

Running that at a more constant rate, lets say scoring TDs 5 out of the 15 drives in a given game, would put so much pressure on the D and gas them well before half time. Our depth on Defense is not the strongest point; not saying its all bad carter (3rd string) has shown promise.

I realize that's 35 points but imagine if TOP was so lopsided to a 40 20 ratio.

We've done the 40 side and majority, a high majority, of the time came out with a win.
its not conducive to a W.That's what matters.
