Yes, the offense should run circles around defenses. However, the O-Line performance will make or break many of the options that can be exercised with that lineup.

And it's great to have that speed, but the Steelers still need to establish a ground game.

I agree. On paper, looks great! Then again, so does my fantasy football team right before the season starts every year :hmmm:

Dink and dunk fellas, dink and dunk, makes any Oline look better then it is. Then again, I remember opposing players in the backfield before Ben could even drop back one step, so who knows.

In addition, this draws in the safeties, making the long ball easier

if the oline cant give Ben and his wrs enough time for the play to develope than all that talent will go to waste.
they need to establish a short passing game that will keep Ben upright and keep the other teams from blitzing. they have the speed guys that should be able to run quick short routes and get open.
i cant see many teams having enough fast corners to stay with Wallace, Brown, Sanders and Rainy.

What you're forgetting is that by the time Ben has pump-faked six times, the cornerbacks will simply be too confused to know where to cover...

I think you guys are missing what this creates.

    The run game.

With coverage rolling to Wallace, LBs rolling deep to cover AB at 7-12 yards, SS sticking on Heath, and a strong side corner staying shallow for dumps to Rainey and company, gives time for the RBs to at least hit the hole only having to dodge a LB to break off 6.

Our online scheme has been man on man for awhile now and our weapons only help.

With the atheticism to the o line we are brining in, we should switch to zone blocking in the next few years.

I didn't pay attention to it during the starters time in the game on Sat, but I recall being frustrated every week last year with this offense taking the snap down to the wire. It just looked like opposing defenses could just watch the clock and time it to tee off on us. It gave them the upper hand to get a guy in completely free with no chance for our back to get in position and chip. I am not suggesting its the only reason the other team was in the pocket before Ben so many times, but its one thing I will be interested in seeing this year. That has to be coached and fixed!

    I couldn`t agree more!!! :frustrated:
I don`t know if that was a product of the O.C., or the Q.B., or something else, I am missing...
If It`s Peyton doing it, to get a look at the defense, then adjust, that`s one thing, but Ben`s strength has always leaned more towards REACT, than, PLAN and Dissect! :hmmm:

Another thing, that has been touched on in this thread, is the "Dink, and Dunk"...
For all the talk about our speedy recievers, being able to "take the top off a defense", and open up underneath routes, those same recievers, can get BIG Y.A.C., given slant routes, and Ben hitting them in stride...
Brown and Wallace have both shown this ability, when given a very few chances, the last couple seasons. (Heath does it his own way, with brute strength, rather than speed), also, we haven`t really had a weapon like Rainey, before... We had Mewelde, but his speed is nothing near what Rainey brings to the table.
All of this, is just a long winded way of saying, I think that this is a big part of what Haley is planning to do this year.
Sure, he will take deep shots to stretch the field, But I think it is obvious to all of us, that he was brought in, to change Ben`s style a bit, from the sandlot, scramble around style he has had since he came into the league, into at least a little bit more of a "timing route", quick pass qb.
That has never been his strength, but if he gets better at it, it could help us TREMENDOUSLY. (And prolong his career).
Alng with more traditional type screen plays, that we seemed to be focused on the first pre-season game...
I have a VERY good feeling about this...
    GO STEELERS!!! :yeehaw:

Isn't the dink and dunk Tom Brady's bread and butter and the reason Wes Welker catches 200 passes every year? :good:

I still think our O line is going to be a nice surprise this season. I refuse to believe otherwise until the season is underway!

This is all well and good, but considering are OL, maybe Ben won't
have a chance to find these wonderful weapons? And as much as I hate the
the dink and dunk (west coast) offense, We are the PGH Steelers, we go downfield.
Our best hope and this was before Double D got hurt, was going to be run heavy till about the 7th week
until the other Yahoos (OL) got on nearly the same page as Pouncey and Decastro. Then and only then
it would have REALLY opened up the pass game, Play action, screens, draws, roll outs
all the things that would have returned the PGH Steelers to their grandeaur. By the way, hasn't are
supposedly best defensive player gone on record stating that you CAN NOT leave this defense on the field for long periods of time?
