It really stinks that the AAF is over. Doubly so?! More lawsuits, class action at that, will be arriving soon the same. Biggest issue for me is that Troy is a defendant in this.

Not sure what he did wrong. I guess one of the other big investors pulled the plug and like jenga all the pieces fell.

Of course we don't know all the details, but I highly doubt Troy was up to anything shady.

 

He wasn't up to anything shady... He threw himself into something that looked decent at the time with no idea the plug would be pulled in the fashion it was. Name/role played alone is why he's getting drug in... The collapse had zilch to do with him nor many others serving their roles.

 

This is pretty common practice in lawsuits. The more "defendants" you name, the better you think your lawsuit looks, and possibly, more people to collect money from.

 

He should be protected under the corporate umbrella..

 

That's why these players need to pay attention in school! No matter what anyone promises, with the dismal crowds these games pulled in, how could anyone think the league would survive?

They were trying to mimic the Amazon.com model that didn't show a profit (on paper) for what...10-15 years? Meanwhile at Amazon, someone was robbing the cookie jar blind. A good trick if you can get away with it.

 

They couldn’t have expected mass profits in the first year. But you’d expect that to be part of the business plan, surely?

 

This looks like a typical contract dispute. Reading the article, the players are suing the league, in all likelihood over paychecks or unreimbursed cost that they didn't get when the league shut down. The City of Birmingham is suing too, probably over cost related to stadium improvements or security/police costs that they incurred under the assumption that the league would operate for more games than they did.

Who knows if either plaintiff will get anything, but they could easily have legitimate beefs.

 

Gee we have more things to worry about besides troy being sued, the AAF is bankrupt so nobody is getting a dime from these lawsuits anyway....
