Thought this was worth a new thread so it's not buried in the old one. It says he'll arrive tonight and report to the team facility tomorrow. I guess we can expect him to sign his tender at that point. Because of the three day rule though, there's pretty much no chance he plays the last preseason game. But he will be good to go against Denver.

    Wallace to report on Tuesday

So what's the next step? Do they negotiate? Do they stand hard?

What do we think is the next thing to do with a hold out that now reports ??

I say do what we always have done. Sign to a long deal. Keep mike a steeler for at least 4 years.

    FINALLY!!

I think they start negotiating as they said they'd do, assuming his attitude and body are where they should be.

its complete greed on our part to get mad at these players when they hold out. their window to make big money is so small that they have to try and capitalize when they can.

of course i wanted to see Wallace out there in the 1st 3 pre season games, but to him those games are absolutly meaningless to his future.

when the Steelers are done with him because he has lost a step he will be cut and his contract terminated or they will want him to redo his contract. he holds the power right now to make as much money as possible.

i have no hard feelings towards him or any other player that holds out.

I've heard Pitts doesn't like to talk about contracts during the regular season, they only do the talking in the off season. So each day this clown stays home they're losing time, they have less than 2 weeks to agree on an extension.

Okay, so whatever it's worth, I'll play. Since I've stated all along that this whole thing is overblown.....to the n'th degree.

    Here's how it works:

    Mike returns and signs tender.

Team has a long talk with Mike and Bus. Mike explains how he really has always wanted to stay with the Steelers. Steelers thank Mike for keeping this in-house.

Steelers original offer goes back on the table, approx. 10 mil per year (give or take), because they all feel good again.

    Mike signs long-term deal

Media explains they really expected this to happen all along, attempting to save face after all the outrageous speculation. Most people will believe them and think this a miracle they could get a deal done.

End of story. Not nearly the drama everyone is enjoying, but much more likely.

Then, for fun, I'll add: Finally, Haley, Tomlin, Colbert and Bus go out for a beer to celebrate the fact that everyone is happy, and that they did a great job getting Mike ready at Shaw's without having to worry about a stupid injury in camp. Everyone is happy, except for all the fans who feel robbed because they made so much more out of it than there really was.

Jeez this contract stuff is soooooooooooo complicated.

There's no way he can play in the last preseason game because of the new rule that makes players wait 3 days after they report to put on pads.

The may not like to, but that's not a hard and fast thing like the not negotiating until you sign your tender. The do and have done quite a few over the last few seasons.

Not saying you have this attitude, but there are plenty who do and, in the same breath, will curse teachers who threaten to strike over their contracts. These guys are millionaires playing a game. While I know there is danger of injury, etc. There are few players in the league who, if they invest their money appropriately, cannot live for the rest of their lives on the money they make for just one contract.

Wallace is a bit of a special case because he wasn't UNDER a contract, so we could get into semantics, but as I said on a different thread, if my boss offered me an additional $10,000 to continue to do something that I loved, I wouldn't even hesitate to weep for joy. This guy skipped camp and rejected 10 MILLION DOLLARS a year! And I should have empathy for him? I think not.

LOL! Obviously I didn't read the original post very well. However, my point was that there isn't "pretty much no chance" that he'll play the last preseason game - there's NO chance at all because the 3 days won't be up.

Jerry Rice, says he won't be ready to make a contribution until about the 5th week.
Thanks Mike! Go sign with some one else. We only want Steeler players that want to be here.

Citing a team source, ESPN's Josina Anderson reports restricted free agent Mike Wallace has been picked up from the airport by Steelers officials and is currently en route to club headquarters.
He should be signing his one-year, $2.742 million tender shortly. Anderson reports Wallace will be at the facility in time for early-Tuesday team meetings. ESPN's Jerry Rice opined on SportsCenter Monday that there's "no way" Wallace will be ready for a Week 1 impact after missing all of camp and the preseason, going so far as to suggest it could take Wallace "four to five games." Rice's take is obviously on the pessimistic side. Aug 28 - 9:08 AM

He'll be ready for week 1. I don't know how much of an "impact" he'll make, as Jerry puts it, but he'll be on the field which will have a fairly substantial "impact" on the opposing defense. And that's all that will matter at that point. ;-)
