Thats been my point all along. He's only off the team because they found a replacement.

So your saying it was a surprise he got replaced? I don't feel that way I felt all along he was gonna be replaced once he opened his mouth, heck maybe even if he didn't open his mouth.

His being replaced had diddly squat to do with his opening his mouth. He was replaced because he wasn’t any help to the team. It wasn’t a surprise.

So if he had a better season last year but opened his mouth about wanting out, he'd still be here?

I don't think the Steelers are in the business of forcing people to play for them all evidence to the contrary. So when he asked to be released and it made monetary sense they would grant the request.

Not only did he run his mouth about wanting out he didn't want to play ILB either. He was getting replaced one way or the other.

And if they didn't find a replacement, would they cut him anyway?

IMO, they were getting a replacement either in the draft or later in FA, so yes he was getting cut. I can't believe all the people that don't think Burnett was on the way out after all the BS went on with AB. He said he didn't want to play ILB then he wanted to be released, all with a cap hit of 6.4 mil and knowing we could save 3.6-5 mil (depending when we cut him) for a team up against the cap. The writing was on the wall imo.

Probably. But if he had a better season he also probably wouldn’t have opened his mouth.

I wonder if this is why Tomlin doesn't have any leaders. He is waiting for volunteers?

A shame he was a disappointment. Couldn;t stay healthy either.

Yep. I had hopes that this would be a good signing, but a combination of factors seemed to work against us. I was surprised Burnett complained about his role expectations, as I seem to remember them talking about that from when he was first signed.

True, I love both of those guys. But Heyward can't control the Chinese fire drill that's going on behind him when the ball is snapped.

I guess it’s a good thing that he didn’t act a fool to get out to of his commitment. But what other team is letting so many players run over them like this? The Steelers are broken with nobody in charge with a clue on how to fix them.

Honestly, I think the Steelers got the last laugh on this one. Burnett requested to be released ASAP, so that he would have the maximum amount of time to test the free agent waters. The Steelers, who were going to release Burnett anyway, waited until Free Agency was all but over to release him. Im not sure how many teams would have been interested in Burnett, but Im sure that number is smaller now that some of those teams have signed other players.

Possibly. At the same time though from the time he asked for his release and what went on with AB it's pretty obvious he and other teams knew it was just a matter of time. I wouldn't be too sure he didn't already have something up his sleeve from the beginning. Now that it's official. I would be surprised if he wasn't somewhere else sooner than later....jmo

I read an article where Colbert was trying to trade Burnett first. Yea, good luck with that one.

Maybe. I'm just not sure what kind of market there is for an oft-injured safety coming off a lackluster season. My guess is he will land somewhere after the draft.
