If they take a tight end in the first round given the needs at receiver and linebacker, I will throw something.

He's got to be better than whatever garbage we end up drafting at cb, right?

The bar is getting pretty low for what counts as "good news" at this point

Problem is, if Bell gets an contract in the 11-12 million range everyone thinks he’s gonna get, we lose the 3rd round comp. pick.

I don't really care who they draft or sign as a FA this year. Signs point to the Steelers missing the playoffs and finishing around 8-8. It's really unfortunate that Ben will end up retiring without ever sniffing the playoffs again.

I saw him making it that far in quite a few mock drafts. I also saw some second-round grades on Williams because he doesn't like to tackle.

I'm already waiting for a year from now when we'll have the 15th pick and can spend the $30M we're wasting on Brown and Bud for real players. With any balls from ownership it'll be with a new HC too.

That's a concern but I really like what I saw out of him in coverage. Fluid hips, good ball skills, long and rangey. He would have also went under Joe Haden's wing. I thought it was the perfect fit.

How do we lose the comp pick?!

If Bell does end up signing elsewhere, Pittsburgh will receive a comp pick in 2020.

But what if Hockenson i's simply better than all the WRs ? I think he is.

Didn’t want to start a new thread. With Nelson signing, is Mike Hilton still our nickel?? Is he signed?

IMO there is enough depth at WR in the draft to have the luxury of waiting a bit. The positive, impact that a TE can have on the O early on is more realistic than what a WR will be able to give you. I like Hockenson but it's Fant that is growing on me more. He is basically a jumbo WR who can block pretty well too. Hockenson may be better all around but Fant will have a greater impact in the passing game. If we were to pick up a vet. WR in FA. I would be more than comfortable with Fant at 20. Ben gives us our best chance, right?

The O has taken a big hit this offseason. With the injury history of McDonald also being a concern,we have to keep enough O in our cupboard to keep our strength a strength .....

Not if you sign a free agent for roughly the same, it’s a wash.

If D.K. Metcalf improves on his fluidity and agility by the time the Ole Miss Pro Day arrives, I would consider him. Then again, should he showcase that, forget about him. He is as good as gone. That being said, agree with you here.

This class is loaded at Wide Receiver. Plenty of options available. For that matter, should Pittsburgh not have to trade up in Round One and if their receiver is within striking distance for Round two, trade up for that player.

As the NFL explains, compensatory picks are awarded to teams that lose more or better compensatory free agents than they acquire. The number of picks a team can receive equals the net loss of compensatory free agents, up to a maximum of four. Compensatory free agents are determined by a secret formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. Not every free agent lost or signed is covered by the formula.

In order to qualify for the comp equation, a player must have been a true Unrestricted Free Agent whose contract had expired or was voided after the previous season (i.e., he cannot have been released by his old team); [generally speaking,] he must sign during the UFA signing period

I think he could become the best offensive prospect to come out of this class. He really does not have any apparent weaknesses nor limitations. The only reason I cannot put him in my top 10 on my board is because this years crop of defensive interior lineman and pass rushers, talent wise, are absolutely unreal.

It wouldn't be my first choice, but if Bush and White are gone, maybe if Hockenson fell to #20 it could happen.
