I’m sure there’s some up front money he got that factors in there, but it’s not like they are writing a check to AB for 21 million.

It's all upfront money that is what a signing bonus is.

The problem is that it would have been spread over the length of the contract but once he is traded it counts all at once

The Steelers are not going to win a championship in the next three years either. We've won 3 playoff games in the last 8 years I believe. Brown wasn't basing his antics on the post season success of the Steelers. There hasn't been any since he's been here. So I'm pretty sure he knew that. Fact is the Steelers got fleeced and we live with it. No big name free agent on defense this year and these are the same clowns that took Edmunds in round 1 last year no? So what do you think they'll do with a round 3 and round 5? it won't replace Brown that's for sure. So we'll spend another round 1 pick on defense and let the offense get the crumbs yet again. We will need a QB to replace Ben in just a few years. None on the horizon. I think we're going to see a steady decline of the team for the next few years until Tomlin and Colbert are gone. Then a rebuild. I won't be alive to see the next super bowl win but then I'm ok with that if the team simply begins the process of getting better.

So one year off. So 2 years vs 3. What a big difference to come ask for money lol. When he did it he had 3 years left on his deal just like AB had 3 years left on his deal this yr so what's the difference?

I understand that, but again that money has already been paid. That’s a risk you take when you do these restructures. The dead cap hit and actual money paid out aren’t necessarily the same amount.

Nope....but they did get their hands on a "obsolete " X-Ray machine or should I say built in excuse monitor for the QB and coach..

Ab would be in the 3rd year of his contract this season lol what? How is it 1 year for him? He had 3 years left just like Julio had 3 years left last summer.

And this is why we will never be a Team with Ben on it .. The problem as I see it is Ben really thinks he is great like Brady and has convinced a lot in the organization the same thing .. I see a couple of more 8-8 seasons and then it's time to rebuild without Ben and Tomlin...

They also don't have to pay him his 14 million salary this year. So it comes out to about 6 million when all said and done.

I'm not happy about the compensation but the malcontent had the Steelers over a barrel. I've now seen it said that he killed 3 deals leading up to Raiders.

I'm ready to move on from him but a small part of me wants the Steelers to put the screws to the Raiders and demand higher compensation right before the deadline and if no, then eff you AB, you're staying here. You screwed us, we screw you.

It doesn't matter where he was drafted. Brady was drafted in the 6th round as well. Would he be worth a 3rd and a 5th? I think not.

Plain and Simple, the Steelers short changed themselves on this trade no matter how you dice it.

You can't get what isn't offered and the Raiders aren't stupid. They weren't going to negotiate against themselves. They knew they were one of the only teams willing and able to trade for AB and after the Bills deal fell through we all should have had a good idea what the market was willing to give up.

According to the draft value chart, the difference between the 9th and 20th pick was 500 units. That's equivalent to the 40th pick, so that was evidently the best offer they received. All other offers were below that. The Raiders knew that so there was no way they were going to offer up the 35th pick at 550 units knowing no one else was offering anything close to that. The Raiders' third and fifth are worth 290 units.

Jones signs contract in 2015, asks for more money in 2018 = 3 years
Brown signs contract in 2017, (should have) asked for more money in 2018 = 1 year

    Its really not that hard.

Glad it’s over, but it pisses me off big time how bad Brown screwed our leverage to get a 1st and others

So can you link me to the article where it says he asked for money in 2018. You cant even really link me to a article that says he asked for money from Pittsburgh at all lol. When Julio asked for money had 3 years left on deal. When AB allegedly asked for money had 3 years left on deal. Had played 2 seasons and was entering his 3rd.
