This question came up in another thread joking about Bubby Brister pulling down 2 SB Rings as a backup QB with the Broncos. So as far as the Steelers, who is the most worthy player to wear a Steeler's SB Ring (or Rings) and who is the least worthy (i.e. Mr. Irrelevant")?

    Most Worthy:
    1. Mean Joe
    2. Bradshaw
    3. John Stallworth
    4. Tied - Ben and Ward

    Least Worthy:
    1. Duce "Stanley"
    2. Ditto
    3. Ditto
    4. Ditto

Yes - I wanted to put the Bus in there too and as much as he contributed career-wise as a great Steeler RB, he didn't do much during the actual (SB XL) game. However, his pancaking of Urlacher image on that snowy afternoon that started their improbable SB XL run that year and the rest of the Team working extra hard to get him a ring in Detroit, should bestow him the accolade as well. :thumbs up:

Yea the whole super Bowl run he didn't do much but like u said his career with the team and the team especially Heinz and Ben wanting to get him a ring so badly shows how much of an impact he had on his teammates

Refresh my memory about Stout? Perhaps least worthy to wear a Steeler's Uniform (tied with Limas Sweed) but ....oh wait, just Googled him, Steeler from '77-'84 - wow, I thought he came much later during the mid 80's. He held a record for suiting up for 55 straight games and never took a snap. Ding Ding Ding - we have a winner who has multiple rings with no playing time. Good catch 86Ward!

And if ben is most worthy then he should have not stunk it up in the packers sbl...... And really stunk it up in the last 2 minutes going 4 and out against a bad defense missing 3 of there best defensive players. Hey lets throw to a triple covered mike wallace while everyone else is wide open...........

Stoudt was the back up for most of the SB's behind Bradshaw. Although not his fault for non participation he really added nothing to those SB teams. He was replaced by Mark Malone when Terry retired which in itself was a mistake by not drafting Dan Marino instead.

If we had drafted Marino, another 3 or four SB's easily.

People say that but even if we drafted marino nfc teams would have still been much better than us in the 80s and early 90s. Maybe we would have got 1 or 2 in mid 90s but I can not see any 80s steelers teams being that great even with marino....

If you replace Neil O'Donnell with Marino in Super Bowl XXX, Steelers win that Super Bowl. Hands down, no doubt about it. Marino never had a defense like that, he would have picked Dallas apart. No doubt in my book.

Possible but also possible Dallas would not have overlooked us if marino was our starter.... Lets be realistic, they overlooked us. I think we would have gone to a bunch of superbowls not sure how many we would have won. Marino , starbauch, stabler odonell or montana, cower ( the bottom feeder) Is still gonna play marty ball... Dont matter who the qback was.........

If Marino was the Steelers QB, Noll might have coached another 20 seasons. ;+)

If Marino was the Steelers QB,he would have been a backup for 2-3 years.

    You still might be right.

There are long snappers with multiple rings. What is the point?

This is the inverse of arguing superbowls get a QB in the HOF.

    Balderdash.

The point is jeh that it's a long off-season and I'm trying to do anything possible to not start another wasted Bell/Brown thread. BTW, long snappers actually play and provide a critical function so they wouldn't be irrelevant. I suppose that Mr. Irony could be substituted for Mr. Irrelevant. Brister getting 2 rings with Denver was irony.

You're correct TC. Brister did contribute (ironically) to the Bronco's SB run that year. He was considered the second coming of Bradshaw and could certainly heave the rock, but didn't have nearly the supporting cast that TB did during the Dynasty.

ok. here is a name for least worthy:

    Arnold Harrison.

Arnold Harrison managed to get rings - twice- for the 05-06 and 08-09 teams, without playing a single snap in a regular season game either season.

Cliff Stoudt did the same thing in 1978-79. However, at least he did some playing for them later and believe it or not, had a career 9-8 record as a starter.

Good catch Jimmy! Well at least he possessed two names of Pittsburgh sports legends - that has to count for something. ;)
