All due respect and love to Hines Ward, but man does he ever sound like a hypocrite today.

    https://www.yahoo.com/sports/steele...en-roethlisberger-task-culture-001256827.html

I actually agree with most of what Ward said in criticizing Mike Tomlin and Ben Roethlisberger, but to go on and on about keeping other players' names out of your mouth? Apparently, he has forgotten publicly criticizing Roethlisberger when they played together. For those that forgot, Roethlisberger missed a game against the Ravens due to a concussion. He admitted he was suffering concussion symptoms to the training staff, so the team sat him. Ward thought Roethlisberger should have hidden his symptoms so he could play.

Of course, Ward was completely in the wrong then. It is idiotic to hide concussion symptoms. It is dangerous and it sets terrible example. Also, instead of just taking it to Roethlisberger, Ward went public.

People forget too that Ward very selfishly and like AB, at one time, complained about not getting the ball enough. That gets so overlooked.

Ward was certainly a great player, but he was also very much an all about me player. Apparently he thinks we didn’t notice that?

I think it's pretty safe to say that everyone who has achieved a great level of success has at least a little "all about me" in them. There's more than enough people who haven't achieved nearly as much that are the same way. Yes even around here :smiley1:.

The differences are it only happened once, Hines walked back his statement, and Hines apologized to Ben and the team for creating a distraction.

"Ward had already apologized to Roethlisberger on Monday. Ward wasn't aware a team doctor had advised the quarterback not to play because of post-concussion headaches that followed each of the team's three practices last week."

    That's not Ben's style.

Red herring. Ward's points should be the discussion topic instead of the axe you want to grind with Ward.

And it's not even much of an axe. He slipped up one time in how many years? Which he quickly apologized for.

I also can't help feel like that was a taste of your own medicine type thing. Ben wasn't known as a very good teammate back then, he admits as much now.

Would you consider Ben a good team mate now?

Ward, an all about me player? Are you friggin kidding me!!!?

... the guy who was just as happy blocking as he was catching touchdowns?

Ward held out, and pouted about not getting the ball once, yes, but it all got squashed immediately. This doesn't compare the AB at all. AB has issues, the dude is self imploding.

This exactly, how can anyone compare Hines to AB. That is like comparing a jaywalker to a drunk driver...

Ok, I'll answer. The radio show aside, yes, I think he is a better teammate now. Back then, he was an all around dick, on and off the field.

Now, he helps his teammates, rookies and FA's alike, whether its advice or putting in extra work with them.

With everything that is going on with the Steelers, it sure is an odd time to take swipes at Hines Ward. So what if he spoke his mind a few times? The man played for 14 years. With a playing career that long, of course there were going to be instances where Hines said something out of frustration. Those instances were few and far between.

What axe? Please don't make things up about me just because you don't like my post. I have no axe to grind with Ward. I disagree with something he said because it was hypocritical.

I am a huge fan of Ward's. I loved watching him play and this team could certainly use more guys like him. I even said I agree with most of what Ward said.

I have little tolerance for hypocrisy and even less tolerance for people who don't take the threat of concussions seriously. It's not a swipe at Ward. It's a criticism of part of what he said while I agree with most of it.

#86 is the only numbered Steeler Jersey I own (and I have plenty of Steeler garb) and I bought it his rookie year. No internet back then, just Bob Labriola's weekly rag which had feature stories about Ward all the time because of his unique skill-set. Nothing will ever change my opinion about this All Time Great. I'm just sorry it wasn't he who threw the reverse TD pass to Randle El in SB XL - he still would have got the MVP either way. IMO they never exploited his QB skills as much as they could/should have. He was my late Wife's favorite player too, she called him "Smiley". : ) :smiley1:

Hines Ward has his right to his opinion, as do you. However Hines Ward's opinion is far more valid than yours is. You know, the 14 year NFL career that he has, and you don't, and all. I am glad you saw the movie Concussion. Unfortunately that does not make you an expert on the subject. If it makes you feel any better I am sure your tolerance for hypocrisy is of little concern to Hines Ward.

Tomlin had Ben suited up as the 3rd string QB for that game.
