He is but he is retaining his position. Rather, Mike Tomlin will become more active in the playcalling. That being said, still disappointing.

Why or rather what Art Rooney II sees in essentially a "Peter Principe" Coordinator in Butler is something I have not the foggiest. Kansas City fired Bob Sutton after multiple blunders and shortcomings. Keith Butler has a near identical track record.

It's all about that contract and too cheap to cut their losses. Maybe they are afraid some contender will scoop Butler up :roflmao:

Or the "Sunk Cost Fallacy" is kicking in. I am not too certain on which Super Bowl contending team would elect to pick him up. For that matter, why they would fire their own Linebackers Coach; much less their Defensive Coordinator.

He actually was a good LB coach. The play has seemed to haven fallen off since he relinquished that responsibility.

If he is indeed taking over the LB's and not just a title, I imagine he is having his DC responsibilities cut down.

I was thinking why doesn't he just quit, who would stay after being demoted basically. Could be because catching on with another team now would be difficult. I think this probably is his last season here and will become a member of the not renewing his contract club.

That's to be determined about Tomlin and the playcalling, he has become more involved with the game planning though.

At least Butler is a better OLB coach than Porter

Wowww, this is going to be such a **** show next year. 0% chance it works. Didn't they bring somebody in to work with the DBs? This is going to be such a mess because they don't have the balls to fire Butler. LBs need somebody that can motivate them. Say what you want about Porter but he could give a good speech and fire people up that's probably more than Butler brings to the table.

The only way to extinguish this defensive dumpster fire is to get better coaches. Shuffling failure around only gets you more failure.

Should Butler be more involved with the development and not the playcalling, who is calling it? Unless there is a report that Terryl Austin is going to out there somewhere, Tomlin is the only other option.

Butler was a very good LB coach for a decade. I wouldn’t be disappointed to have him back as OLB coach only. It’s the DC thing that’s the problem.

Yea this is a great plan! Have a ghost D coordinator now coaching up the OLBers. This in itself reeks of them keeping Dupree to see if he can be reached by Butler. And now Tomlin will be more involved in the defense, he already is. What does that tell you? He can hardly handle the head coaching duties.

Butler was retained because he has one year left on his contract. That's how this archaic franchise does it's business. Porter was not fired, his contract ran out. My issue will be if Art II extends Tomlins contract. You made this bed, now turn it around, then we can talk. It seems it will get worse before it gets better with the way this thing is heading. Imploding from within...
