And when he continues to give you his fat middle finger what do you do? Explain the rules to him? He doesn't care. Fine him? Go right ahead. You paid him for the game he skipped, so you're gonna get tough now? AB snicker tweet follows. He's burnt the bridge, he don't want back. He knows you won't carry his dead weight salary cap next yr, he knows you will have to trade him and that's what he wants.

If he holds out, he’s in breach of his contract. Essentially, he’d be terminating it, which means he’d have to pay back that $21.12 million he’s taken upfront. (It’d be similar to retiring—he’d owe a prorated portion of the signing bonus and restructure money.)

Part of me (maybe like 10%) wants the Steelers to franchise Bell again and to tell AB you play and grow up or you don't play. We don't care if we have $30 million in dead cap money and you sit out.

As of now, I think AB wants out. If this is the case when trading activity starts in a few months, then Art ll will accommodate him.

Given that trading or cutting him costs the team more cap space than keeping him, you call his bluff. He can play or he can lose a year and not get paid. This isn't the same as Bell. He's 31. Caving to whatever he wants just makes things worse.

Bell had better leverage than Brown. He was younger and he didn't have to play in 2018 to be free for 2019. If Brown sits, he's still under the team's control the following season.

Given the cap hit they would take, it is idiotic to trade Brown unless they can get fair value. If you want to allow your bitterness to push you to the side of doing something stupid, so be it.

So the Stillers sit on $11 mil in cap space to prove a point? AB bets they won't. He's probably right. Let Art II explain why the D stinks (again) while they sit on $10+ mil cap space (again) for a guy who ain't playing. AB knows that he must be traded, so do the Steelers. Whatever the deal, be it AZ's first pick or a sack of potatoes, will be spun by the team as fair value. And the sheep will believe it.

They have more cap space for 2019 if they keep Brown than if they cut or trade him. This has been explained over and over. Please try to educate yourself before your next post. Thank you.

But if they let him sit they don't. But Hey, bring him back then! No downside there!

Can someone please try to educate me? I’m looking at Spotrac, which shows the cap hit to be more or less the same, whether Brown stays or goes.
    Gone by 3/17: $21.12MM
    Gone between 3/18-6/1: $23.62MM
    Stays: $22.165MM

(Fwiw: If he goes, the FO also doesn’t have to pay him his $12,625,000/$15,125,000 salary.)

Agree with this. There is a net cap savings in 2019 of about $1 million before accounting for the cap impact of his replacement on the roster. Trading him is not an ideal situation for our 2019 cap situation, but it’s not a huge obstacle either.

Sorry Scribe, but I’m pretty sure that’s inaccurate. We save about 1 million by trading him.
Now we have to replace him. So depending on whether that’s with a rookie or a higher priced FA that could be where you’re concluding that it costs us more by trading him?

Trade him after 6/1, and nearly half of his cap hit can be pushed to 2020.
