Seems like a pretty lofty goal. Have to have the hope though. His gait was pretty staggered even with walking. Wonder how it is with jogging.

I don't see him playing again, but the idea that Art Rooney is still supporting him tells what kind of owner he is.

I just can't ever see him playing again and if he did his style of play (head first) would have to change. He would be too gun shy to play at the level he is use to playing. He still has that wonderful young man swagger and believes it's possible.

When he went down that game my heart crumbled. I am 100% sure we beat the Jags with him in there. No doubt in my mind he would have got the defense to pull their heads out of their ass. I had such a fantasy of him laying Brady out in the AFCCG. Our luck it would have happened and flashback to 2001 when Bledsoe went down in the Burgh and some nobody named Brady came in. I was so sure the game was over and we had it in the bag but the great Kordella, who looked scared ****less at the start of game, proceeded to throw 3-4 picks.

He will probably get a Rudy like chance to get on the field for atleast 1 play somewhere down the road.

I just can't envision that he gets all the way back. I wish him the best though.

I'd assume he will need an insurance policy like that TE for the Packers had so that if anything happens both the team and Shaizer are covered.

We still would have lost to the Jags as well. He needs to hang the cleats up and thank God he can still do what he can after that injury.

Seems like the path he's on. The Steelers would give him a shot.

Yeah league minimum contract, which isn’t bad considering it’s just shy of a cool million, and PUP him every year until he wants to be done.

    Win/win.

I have thought this from day one, sign him to a one week contract or a player/coach contract and he starts the game and then retires. I want nothing more than to see him come back but I would rather never see him play again and him live a normal life then him come back and do harm.

Love this dude, I just think this is a bad idea. He's got a lot more outside of football, I don't want to see that injury again. It could be a lot worst this time. Either way he will always have my support as a fan.

You've got your history mixed up. Brady started that AFC Championship Game in Pittsburgh. Bledsoe started the first two games of that season, suffering a lacerated kidney Week 2 against the Jets. Brady took over and Belichick stuck with him even when Bledsoe was healthy enough to play.

In the AFC Championship in Pittsburgh, it was Brady who got hurt during the game. Bledsoe replaced him and threw a touchdown pass, the Patriots' only offensive touchdown in the game. They also scored on a punt return and a blocked field goal return.

I wish he was coaching material so he could have a job with the team.

Not in the ordinary, But this is not an an ordinary situation...

Call him in and be brutally honest..." Ryan we love you and hope you are a Steeler for life but, This is still a salary cap league...We can't pay for a player ( probably a decent amount ) who can't play...but...

Here's what we can do/ we will do...We will retain as " insert any kind of title here " We love having you around the facility, plus you can continue to train...and still be around the best trainers and therapists there are...

IF...You continue to heal and progress, even to the point of the unthinkable...We PROMISE to sign you back on as a player, and pay you as such...

    Doable...or a fairytale?

I think Ryan Shazier will have a job with the PGH Steelers until he doesn't want one.

Point is we are not as loyal as you like to think...unless you have Head Coach in your title.

Still not a fair comparison. Rod was still playing and he wasn’t settling for what the Steelers were offering him contract wise. The Steelers wanted to keep him and later Dan Rooney admited regret for not finding a way to make that happen.
The Steelers have proven to be pretty loyal to players over the years. Almost to a fault.
It’s going to be much easier to keep Shazier around given his situation.
They could very easily move on, but I suspect they’ll find a role for him.

The two great mistakes of the Steelers organization

    1) Not drafting Dan Marino

    2) not re-signing Rod Woodson.

    IMO

The Steelers definitely misjudged what Rod had left in the tank.
The guy played 7 productive years after he left Pittsburgh.
Mainly playing the fs/ss...His time at cb was done.
Cannot compare him and Ryan, two totally different situations.
I gotta think they are gonna stick with Ryan a little while longer.
