Lack of intensity, no sacks, where is the passing game . . .

Preseason games are absolutely pointless to dissect. I realize everyone is starved to talk about the team but, preseason games . . .

You watch them for three reasons only: 1.) You want to make sure nobody gets hurt 2.) You want to see what some of the draft picks look like 3.) You want to watch any camp battles that are going on

    That's it.

To complain about any sort of production from your normal starters in a glorified scrimmage with another team that the NFL sells tickets to is pointless. There is no real game preparation/planning, the play-calling is watered down, and the starters generally only play between a series of downs and one half of football.

To quote Coach Tomlin, "I would have a hard time caring less . . . " about whether or not we even won our preseason game.

It doesn't matter. It just doesn't matter at all.

The 1972 Dolphins: 3-3 in the preseason.
The 2008 (0-16) Detroit Lions: 4-0 in the preseason.

Very well said! Some people just don't understand the concept of the preseason...most vanilla O and D...its more about some of the lower guys fighting for spots than anything. Not the plays themselves or what type are called/etc. Its the same almost every year...and people still don't understand.

I haven`t really seen any "Sky is falling" type posts, like we will after we play week one of the regular season, win, lose, or draw...
Maybe I just skipped over those threads...
I have seen a few people expressing concerns, which is what I expect passionate fans to do.
And I DO still expect us to try our hardest, especially the rookies trying to make the team, whether it is pre-season, or not.
Obviously, being the pre-season, the team is working on certain aspects of the game, more than trying all-out to win the game overall, so you will see teams going for it on fourth in situations, where they never would during the regular season, etc, or focus on certain plays, instead of coming in with a "game plan", to try and play against our opponent`s weaknesses...
    All that being said...
I still like to see our players try their hardest to execute the plays called, even if they aren`t the plays that would be called at that point in the game, in the regular season.
As one of my first coaches told our pee-wee team...
    "You play how you practice!!!"...
Meaning, if you`re lazy, and lack intensity when you are practicing, don`t focus on fundamentals, like holding onto the ball, having the right number of players in the huddle, not jumping offsides, basic, discipline type things...those bad habits tend to show up, when the lights are on, on game day.
I haven`t seen anything alarming like that with us, so far(Other than 12 or 13 men in the huddle twice last night)...And an offsides by Beachum(I think)... a few minor glitches, but not an overall lack of effort or dedication.
THAT would worry me... as is, I think we are on track right now, and what the coaches have seen, I am sure they are chewing the guys out, to correct.
It`s not like when we have come off Superbowl wins in the past, and been lazy/complacent, just thinking we are gonna win, because we are the reigning SB champs...
This group looks hungry, motivated, and energized, to me, overall, at this point!
    GO STEELERS!!

I agree with this and the original poster at the same time. I don't think they conflict. The original post has many truths and this one is a calm rational mostly (hopefully) true response.

I think we look REASONABLY fine for a team going through so many changes in scheme and personell.

Wait a while... you mean to tell me preseason games don't matter? What next, the world will end in Dec. 2012, aliens do exist, they have located bigfoot riding the loch ness monster while chasing a mermaid that was eating a mothman? Good thing I bought 2000 emergency supply meals now that I know preseason games don't affect the regular season! (Obviously I listen to way too much coast 2 coast when I work nights)

It's even funnier when paid professionals try to boost their own ratings

Mike Ditka ESPN Sportcenter Quote "Andrew Luck looked good out there against the Steelers defense. Dick LeBeau must have thought it was a playoff game cause he was throwing everything at him but the kitchen sink"

I guess Mr. Luck is now ESPN's new Lover Boy. Move over Aaron Rogers and Tom Brady. There's a new sheriff in town.

With Andrew and RGIII in the NFL Big Ben is now out of the top ten category. Sorry Ben. You just aren't that great anymore.

Really? Gone from the top TEN now? I don't think he could fall that far. Let's look at who they could have in that conversation with a bit of reality. This is not an order, just a group of legitimate guys.

    Brady (3 rings)
    Manning (1 ring)
    Manning (2 rings)
    Breeze (1 Ring)
    Rodgers (1 ring)
    Roethlisberger (2 rings)
    Newton
    Stafford
    LUCK
Romo ( I don't even think he should be here)

Just below the top 10 (Ben doesn't belong in here)

    Rivers
    Flacco
    Cutler
    Ryan
    Shaub
    Dalton

A discussion about Ben we agree on :o :good:[/quote:1178yosu]

That's because we are strictly talking about the player and his abilities. I always thought that was clear on my end. He's a great player, some other areas not so much.... :clapping: :yeehaw: :herewego: :towel:

EDIT**** I forgot to put Vick in these lists. Romo needs to drop into a catagory with Vick and Flacco that belong in an in
between tier of guys below the top 10 but on the cusp.

What's even more comical is how a thread like this becomes about where Ben Roethlisberger ranks among the league's quarterbacks. Ha!
