Just got off the phone with a woman with ties to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton and she provided me with some 'inside information' that the 2013 Hall of Fame Game during enshrinement weekend will involve the Steelers and the Browns. It's a BIG weekend for the Hall as it's celebrating its 50th anniversary and they want to celebrate big-time and no two teams in the league would command a better draw to Canton than these two geographically convenient organizations.

I attended the enshrinement of Dawson and Butler a couple of weeks ago and the stadium was half-full but it's of my personal belief that Jerome Bettis will get in next year (maybe with some encouragement from the Hall to the writers) to make it an even bigger weekend for Steelers fans contributing to probably the largest turnout the Hall has ever seen.

Just a quick heads-up to those interested in attending the event, you might want to secure tickets as soon as they become available to the general public.

That would be cool...and I think I'd make the hour trip to Canton to check it out!

I doubt it. I think the teams are allowed to choose who they play in the preseason. I doubt they would choose a divsion rival. At least I never remember the Steelers playing a divison rival in the preseason.

Not sayin' your wrong, as you could well be right. But since the 1970 merger, no division rivals have played each other the HOF game.

I was gonna say I don't recall us playing a division rival in the preseason.

The Steelers played the Browns in the 1989 preseason.

That said, I highly doubt the HOF game will be Pittsburgh AND Cleveland. I wonder if instead, the message was: Pittsburgh OR Cleveland. But the Steelers just played in it in 2007, Tomlin's very first game. Then again, they played the Saints that night, and the Saints were just playing the HOF game again two weeks ago, so who knows???

I'm just repeating what I heard from a woman who lives in Canton, is very well informed on the 'going-ons' at the HOF, and relayed this information to me. I asked her how she knew that and she basically said something to the effect of her being very good friends with a woman who is involved with that decision.

Also, keep in mind, peeps . . . this isn't a situation where you just say, "oh, well, it's never happened because of blahblahblah . . . "

It is the 50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE OPENING OF THE HALL OF FAME!

If you've ever been to Canton, you know that that entire city is built around the HOF. That weekend alone pumps millions of dollars into their local economy. The locals take great pride in that event. The woman I was speaking to is the one who brought up that it was "some big anniversary" and I looked it up online to see the HOF was established in 1963 so, quick math told me that what she was telling me made all the sense in the world.

It is far from out of the question that, for the 50th anniversary, they would bring in Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Heck, when you think about it more deeply, it would be stupid not to.
