Tomlin is both the best and worst thing to happen to this franchise.

He's great because he maintains a winning season year after year. He made it an easy transition from Cowher.

He's bad for this franchise because despite being here for 12 years, he more resembles a first year head coach. But, he's also employed by the most overly cautious team in the NFL when it comes to change so winning regular seasons will always be good enough.

Many Tomlin supporters will credit Tomlin for the positives and blame players for the negatives. Many Tomlin detractors will blame Tomlin for the negatives and credit players for the positives. Tomlin deserves a large share of the credit when things go well, and a large share of the blame when things go badly.

For me the scale is tipping toward the negative side. Too many self-inflicted wounds that effective coaching should help minimize.

Regarding time: I guess that all depends on the spin you want to put on it.

    Agree to disagree.

Except that if he put him in too soon and broke a rib fans would be ripping on tomlin why he put him in the game when he was injured and knew he was injured. I can hear it now. It's the Raiders why would you put your franchise QB in the game.

Okay, if that's the thinking, then what if those coaches coached the Steelers , would we be in the playoffs or have the same records. ? With the talent of this team we should be in the playoffs but we have about 85% chance of not making it. Again three words: Denver, Oakland, and Chargers. You might want to add Jacksonville and Cleveland who we barely won and tied. We lost to three these teams, lucky to win in Jax, and tied the Browns with a second string QB. We have the better players then these teams but got out coached most of these games. By the way the Chargers are going to the playoffs are we?

I think if you add up all of Tomlin's mishaps vs. sub .500 teams and quick playoff exits... it surpasses Cowher's AFC Championship choke vs. Chargers in '95, IMO. It took Tomlin a while to achieve this, but he's been very consistent at losing to crappy teams. It happens every year at least once... and costs Steelers playoff seeding. The AFCCG loss to Chargers was the worst ever by a Steelers team... and I'll never forget it, but Tomlin pissing away several seasons due to these untimely losses has taken the cake.

He was cleared by the doctor to return. If they were worried about the uncertainty of the injury he should of been held out no matter what. Ben possibly making the injury worse shouldn't only be a concern based on whether they were winning or losing. The doctor said he was clear to return. Ben said he was ready to go. It's just another example of Tomlin gambling and losing. If he didn't already have a track record of putting and leaving Ben in precarious situations maybe I buy it.
Somehow we were able to overlook another opponent. After the stench of the 3 games prior and what we knew was ahead. It was a must win game and somehow the players and the coaches didn't treat it as such.
