I know what you meant

And I agree that it's lame, but I also think Boswell needs to own up to this (apologize). Makes me think he deleted his Twitter account for more than just the abuse he's been taking lately.

Well he is finding himself still employed for this week. Miss a few more and he should be shown the door. Hopefully that 48 yarder was a turning point.

I do believe whatever dead money they owe him is not paid out in one installment, so it shouldn't kill the cap.

Problem is if a game comes down to him making a kick he has the yips and will undoubtedly shank it

I couldn’t care less. Just people looking for something to jump on him about.

Of course he deleted his Twitter account to try to cover his tracks. It is possible that both the people posting horrible things to and about Boswell and Boswell himself are wrong.

What Boswell wrote is not just "guy banter." He was out of line. Just because the people who found it are behaving like jackasses, too, doesn't absolve Boswell entirely.

I don't really care that much. The Steelers have employed players who did far worse. Hell, they still employ at least one. But Boswell's Tweets were inappropriate.

"Good kickers don't grow on trees but keeping one bad apple can spoil the bunch.
Maybe if Boz nailed the 48 yard fg we would feel differently but he's been historically bad this year.
    "

I realize I am digging up an old thread, but today's Steelers Depot article mentioned that Boswell made 8/9 from 50+ last season.

Some people were so quick to say he should be cut, deciding that the bad year (probably due to a lingering injury) represented his ability more than the previous 3 good ones.
Or further back, that Heyward was a 1st round bust when he still wasn't starting in his second year.

(I've been reading too many posts where it seems the person thinks a player will never be any better than their rookie season, or their last injury-limited game.)

Yup. The OP didn't age well. I had already forgotten what was in Boswell's old Tweets.

I didn't realize, at first, that this was from several years ago. My mouth dropped open at the title ....I was like WTF??? I see it's an old one now.

To be fair, didn't it get to the point where they were going for 2 because Boz couldn't be counted on for a PAT?

I'd never seen a kicker fall completely to pieces like that.

If you look at the stats for that season, he was still 90% for PAT, compared to his usual 95%.
That is only 1 or 2 more misses over the course of the season.
He was still automatic for FG under 30 yards. It was 40-49 yarders where he struggled.
(Strangely enough, his kickoffs resulting in a touchback % was the highest of his career.)

In hindsight, Box was definitely kicking with a lingering injury that season.
Probably should have been put on IR, or benched for a few weeks to recover.

My complaint was fans who wanted him cut before the next season, after he had a chance to fully heal.

I don't think you can definitively conclude that he was kicking with a lingering injury. So much of that job is mental. I think he had a bad miss or two and that got in his head. He just couldn't get fully out of that funk until he had an offseason to reset mentally. That possibility is just as likely as an injury.

I did start off by acknowledging that I was raising the dead.

But I think it helps sometimes to look back, and realize if a player struggles for their rookie year or has an uncharacteristic bad year, claiming that the team is obviously stupid for not cutting them has sometimes turned out to be the wrong response.
