The real question is who is out there at this time who would be better.....if they were they would be kicking for someone......
Honestly, we need to get his confidence up. We have no other choice. Bitching about him sure as hell isn't going to make him better. They only brought kickers in to push Boz.

Cutting him is $6 million against the cap.

Given the fact that there is a likely possibility that next season will be Ben's last, it is best to keep him now. We are stuck with him I am afraid. That contract did Pittsburgh little favors.

.... Then again, Stephen Gostkowski did Pittsburgh ZERO favors by resetting the market the same.

Put Boz on IR with some bull crap injury excuse so he can get his head right, then go out and sign a kicker to finish the season.

Maybe the 48-yard kick will restore his confidence. Let's see what he does this week.

I often feel that if they got him a helmet that fitted he would do better.

No excuses this week, he's kicking in a dome, no wind, no grass clumps to worry about, kicking on a carpet, if he botches kicks this week in perfect conditions he has to be evaluated as a head case, and has to go......

I agree. If his problems continue in a dome, I doubt he can be fixed this year. Too bad one of the guys they brought in to “compete” against him signed with the Jags and made all of his kicks.

I know how the Bos feels, in my earlier days i would always miss 3rd gear in my car i raced. With a little practice, a few sybchronizers, tranny and a clutch i actually became what they called..a smooth operator.

    The Bos will be fine.

A little perspective ..... To qualify as " all time anything" a kicker needs 100 attempts. To start the season Boswell was at 96.... If ( I hate if's ) he had made his 1st 4 kicks to start the season he would have been the NFL best kicker ever..... Highest FG % career wise.

Yes , he was that good and deserved his contract and deserves a chance to fix his issues . If he does we'll have a great kicker that we thought we had.

That 48 yarder right down the middle was pretty damn clutch. Hopefully that is the turning point.

After looking at over the cap not sure those numbers are accurate if we cut him now....

Doesn't really matter, we have the cap space to cut him if necessary .....

I will say Boswell earned that contract..... You can't predict future yipes or performance issues.

If they wait until after the season to cut him, they will have around 4.8 million in dead money next season per Steelersdepot.

    Indeed.

I would rather do that to begin with. Bring in some competition and see if more of the same continues with Boswell. If so, cut the losses and soldier on.

At this point, I'd rather sign another kicker and keep Boswell inactive the rest of the season than continue to let him put the Steelers' season at risk. I hate to waste the spot, but I also hate to waste an entire season and one big miss could do exactly that.

If Conner is ready to return this week, cut Trey Edmunds, sign another kicker and give Boswell a seat next to Banner to watch the game.

An 89% field goal percentage in his first three years.

    61.1% this year. << ouch

He was consistent over three years. Makes the pro bowl last year, and was one of the best kickers.

The Steelers bet on him and gave him a big long-term contract.

I'm not entirely convinced he sucks as bad as he's been this year. This is a tough decision. You almost have to release him with such a piss poor year though.

I guess the idea is post June of next year his cap hit would be less. So he's most likely our guy this year unless something happens and they put him on IR to bring someone else in.

Yeah, he is. This changed my opinion of Mr. Boswell. He needs to go.

Sorry, man. I didn’t mean your post, I meant people digging up guy-banter from a half-decade ago to try to torpedo Boswell.
