Coming to Pittsburgh again this year (4th time) and I was wondering about people’s opinions on staying in the North Shore area? I've stayed downtown and in The University Center area, but never the North Shore.

I know it's close to the field, but how is the area? Is there a good selection of restaurants and bars?

    Thanks for the insight!!

Yes, the area is pretty well built up now. Plenty of selections of places to eat and imbibe, plus the Rivers Casino is just on the opposite side of Heinz if you haven't spent enough in the bars.

Yes there are several places on the Northside to have fun, Just don't get
to far off the beaten path and you will be alright. Also just a short cab ride to south side/station square/strip district/Mt Washington.

The wife and i also stayed at the wyndham grand last year. It was great. Had a shuttle van that would take and pick you up from local attractions and it was easy access on game day. Just walk out the front door, head across the river and your their. Would highly recommend to anyone!! Have fun. :herewego:

Nothing wrong with staying in the North Shore. Bettis Grille, Tilted Kilt, newer Pittsburgh Sports Grille (or something like that), Hyde Park (great steak house), etc.

Downtown is an easy walk across the Clemente Bridge.

It might even be better staying on North Side when it comes to game day.

I like staying at Sheraton Station Square and taking The Clipper over. I've also stayed at Westin (Browns were staying there night before the game), Omni William Penn (classic hotel with great lobby but small rooms), Wyndham (which I stayed at many times when it was a Hilton), and, my favorite, The Renaissance (best hotel rooms in town - and a great location right on the river across from PNC).

Coming into town for a game this fall. Looking for something less expensive than the downtown hotels. Any suggestions for a hotel that easy public-transit or shuttle bus access to the stadium?

We usually stay at the Crown Plaza in the south side. It's next to the bottom of the trolly so no driving or parking to get to the game. It's cheaper than downtown and I've been real happy with the rooms, price and service. Only down side is the bars don't stay open late enough.
