Just a basic Q & A on the Steelers website, but there were a couple of things I liked hearing:

"Steve McLendon has had an awesome camp. He’s really taken off from how he finished the 2011 season as a young man on the rise and has really come into his own as a professional. Not only physically in terms of talent and the development of his body, but also the understanding of the position. It’s showing up on the field, and I think it’s been an awesome camp for both Steve and Maurkice Pouncey, two talented young guys who are competing and making themselves better on a daily basis. And Alameda Ta’amu has shown us some things. He has a way to go technically, but you see the talent level. He is who we thought he was from a pedigree standpoint, and he’s a willing worker."

"Chris Carter... has worked diligently to prepare himself for this by improving his energy, his endurance and his strength, and he has had gains in all of those areas. And it is showing up repeatedly."

"Keenan Lewis gets the nod just on experience, but we’re open to the battle. Cortez Allen and Curtis Brown both have really represented themselves well, and what happens over the next month is going to be critical to determining who comes out there on opening day. And by no means is that battle over."

There's some other stuff, including the statements that Redman and Dwyer are both in the best shape of their careers, but it's mostly all generic Tomlin Talk.

Here's the thing with Pouncey though, I have this nagging feeling that ankle is going to derail his career, I think it will put him on the sidelines again this year. I'm never a glass half empty guy about this team either, but just can't shake that feeling. :-(

    I hear ya. :(

Hopefully, if our two guards are playing lights out ball and Pouncey's ankle acts up, the coaches will be okay with giving him extra time to rest it since he won't be needed as badly. I still feel like they rushed Woodley back last year, and it cost us.

A couple of things that I take away from the interview.
1- Keenan Lewis better find a way to get back on the field or Allen and Brown could pass him on the depth chart.
2- McClendon's improvement has eased the stress for the Steelers regarding Casey's health.
3- Tomlin likes the depth and competition levels that he's seeing.
In response to Pouncey's health, I'm cautiously optimistic that he'll be taken care of in the preseason (lightened workload). What a perfect time for Beachum to get some reps at the Center position.

I was feeling pretty good about Pouncey once he had the "corrective" surgery that he should have had last year but who knows if it will ever be the same again....
