I know that TE W. Saunders filed an appeal a while ago to repeal the four game suspension that he was given. After another player had his same suspension repealed, why is it taking the NFL so long to rule on his request? Also, do you suspect that he will be playing in Denver in Week 1?

I can't recall where at the moment, but I read an interview with him very recently where he was asked about the appeal, and he said that he hasn't heard anything yet. I want to say this was in the past 7-10 days or so. I have no idea what's taking the league so long to rule on his appeal, but I think the odds of him playing week 1 are slim to none. I'd be surprised if he even gets the suspension reduced, but that is a possibility of course (albeit a small one in my opinion). I think a lot of people are hopeful that he'll get the suspension lifted or reduced because there have been a couple cases in the last year where the league has done so upon appeal. However, those cases were different. Either way, they'll make a ruling fairly soon.

Thanks TTF. If I recall, the other suspensions that were lifted were for the same stimulate as what he took. (Aderal?) If that is the case, I do not understand what the issue is. Knowing how this will be resolved would certainly affect how we are playing people this preseason. Thanks again.

You're correct, they were suspended for Adderall use too. Adderall is a banned substance in the NFL, but the players who had their suspensions reduced/lifted were different in that they had prescriptions or an existing diagnosis for ADD/ADHD. Saunders does not.

he should sue. Really though a lot of people make fun of adhd and to a point i understand when they say that they are just bad kids or hyper kids but it is a real thing and is part of the americans with disabilities act so thats why the others were dropped im sure a lawsuit was threatened

also him mostly running with the first team when heath was out shows he isnt going anywhere. He has the potential to be a great te and a td machine.

I admit it was foolish of him to take medication without a prescription, but it would be nice if the NFL could use some common sense and come to a sensible solution. Either he needs the meds and made a clerical error, or he took his brother's meds for some other reason. If it's the first one, a warning should be more than enough and a suspension is downright evil. If it's the second, how about an investigation? We aren't talking about a performance-enhancing drug here. 4 games and over a hundred grand is pretty steep for a mistake that wasn't in any way cheating.

Still, my money is on his suspension being upheld. Appeals are not meant to be taken seriously.

Well, I'd wager it's pretty likely not the first one.
Yes we are. The NFL and many other professional and collegiate sports organizations classify it as a PED. It's an amphetamine. It's very regularly abused as a recreational drug, and is sometimes used as a 'stack' by bodybuilders.

Great information and discussion. I do see a difference now in those other cases and in Saunders'. Thanks.

I miswrote. By "clerical error" I didn't mean he filed the paperwork to the wrong agency or something. I meant he didn't bother to file the paperwork at all. The point there was that it's medicine he needs, not just taking drugs for the hell of it. My bad.
Hmm, I didn't know that. I knew it was abused recreationally, but I'd read (here, I'm pretty sure) that it was not a performance enhancer. If he can really get a leg up on the competition from it, that changes everything. I was under the impression it wouldn't help him with that.

Regardless, I think it makes a huge difference whether or not he needs the medicine.

they tell them to check before they put any type of medication in they're bodies, early on and are given a list. a dr. visit or call to someone here could have made him leagal. he took a banned substance that he didn't have a perscription for and it came up positive. the others had that perscription from a dr. that put them within the rules. he's gonna get 4 games i believe. i still want him back after that. he's a talent waiting to happen physically.

Exactly, there are people on the Steelers payroll (and all other teams payrolls) that are resource that players can use to clear any prospective drug that they may or may not take. Saunders didn't have a prescription, so he's in trouble and right fully so. And I would be shocked if it got reduced.

He'll miss 4 weeks, but since we have a bye week 4, that means he'll only miss 3 games. That's good news. Silver lining to having a bye this early, I guess. Saunders and Mendenhall.
