Should have spend day after day complaining and threatening a lawsuit. Apparently, based on the decision today by the NFL to retract some of Vilma's suspension, it works. In fact, we are seeing a new strategy by the elite: adamantly voice your innocence, over and over and over and over, until it changes people's minds. See Roger Clemens. See Ryan Braun. See Lance Armstrong. Evidence is now subjective.

    Totally agree!!!!!!!

Ben should have put on a red, white and blue uniform with a #12 on it and walked in with Victoria Secret supermodel and he would have started every game.

I would totally agree accept for one thing, it straightened out Ben. Everyone here knows I am as big a Ben supporter there is but I have to admit, he's been a boy scout ever since. I still don't like Goodell and still think he is a power hungry ass but I think he got that one right, in the sense that Bens been better for having gone through it. I don't know if that was Goodells intention or he was just being said power hungry ass but it worked for Ben.

I would agree to an extent except that the NFL has come out and said that they made no such offer to Vilma. This was from NFL spokesman Greg Aiello

I would post the link but I'm never been sure what links are okay to post. Its on NFL.com

I will always believe, as I have said before, that the Rooneys had more of a say in Ben's suspension that we will ever know. And, yes, I do believe he was given what he was given as a wake up message. In fact, I believe the Rooneys told Ben, "And, any more drama and we will cut you!" Since that time, I have seen much more severe offenses (I am not defending Ben's actions) and some of these other offenses were even captured on tape, and players were not given any suspensions in those cases. Even this off season, there have been players who have had 7 - 8 past incidents involving the law and they have yet to be suspended. (How about Dumerville in Denver?) Due to that fact, I continue to believe the Rooneys were more involved.

There aren't really any rules like that here. As long as it's a relevant article, and not something spammy, it's totally fine. :)

Ben had bigger problems than worrying about what the Comish would eventually do.

He had the big man to deal with, Rooney, and I don't mean Art.

Amen brother, but I ithink I would rather deal with Dan than his son Art II,
Dan seemed to have his fathers traits, where ART II doesn't seem to have traits like the CHIEF.
He will ship your ass out fast and I am sure he let Ben know this.
It took the Rooney's 60 years to get the brand that they have, of perhaps the best football
franchise in the business, they weren't going to let some 25 year old ruin what they worked
there lifetime to achieve. Principles my man, principles.

Can't agree, not even a little. This situation are in no way comparable.

Had Ben, already being sued for the Nevada incident, in agreessively contesting his suspension would have opened up a huge can of worms. With a lot of publicity the lady in Georgia would have probably have sued (and got a settlement like Ms Nevada), unsavory details would have been hashed and rehashed in public. Classy guys take their pickups back to a hotel room, they don't nail them in the Men's room. And Ben can afford a hotel room. This is publicity he doesn't need.

Vilma on the other hand is being punished for an inside-the-game offense. And many ex-players have said they 'pools' for violent hits or taking out players. Vilma can argue with some justification that he is being singled out for some thing that has gone on for years. Maybe the Saints took it to a new and higher level but that is it. And Vilma gets a year, Ben got 6-games, reduced to 4.

    Not similar in the least.

Yeah you are right, not similar in the least. There is a mountain of evidence against Vilma and there was none against Ben.

You forget that public opinion had him guilty before he was even charged (which he wasn't). The fact that the DA was upset he didn't hav anything to charge him with and decided to lay out all the details, which were so "deplorable", to the public didn't help.

People still keep acting like that's something they would never do. BS!

Never made any case that stated as such. You said that they aren't similar and I pointed out how they weren't, thought that was clear. Ben probably would have lost and according to the NFL, they claim no offer to reduce Vilmas suspension has been made, so he's accomplished nothing as well...

Talking about doing it in a bathroom? I let that go, too silly to address, I often wonder if the people who feel that way have ever done it in any position other then missionary :hmmm:

Oh poo...Anyway this is a non-issue. Ben got what he got and Vilma has other things involved with his litigation. I think good old Goodell messed this situation up by coming out and talking crap about him.

There was no real approach for Ben to take back then...he was at the wrong place at the wrong time...twice...he took his punishment...he's better for it...and so are the Steelers.I was extremely upset with Goodell back then...apparently Goodell and Mr.Rooney knew what they were doing...stay off of motorcycles Ben.
