I might as well paste my reply from the other thread into this one. It's based on this article~ Timesonline
Says he finds the physical part the 'tough' part.

    I agree...he'll be fine.

I do not follow other teams camps, but is it the norm for players to be openly talking about private conversations with other players? Should Ben really have disclosed what him and Decastro talked about? Do other QB's around the league do this? This seems like a private conversation that Decastro had with Ben that should have remained private. If Decastro wanted to tell the media himself he was struggling, that's fine, but I don't like other players speaking up on his behalf. Maybe this stuff happens with every team, but I don't like it.

I think he will be fine people are reading way too much into bryant beating him. a lot of people talk about how bryant is a third year pro and that true but to me its deeper then that. Anybody heard of the beard or aaron smith etc before they were steelers and i believe before their third year with the team. From what im reading about him he is having a great camp and seems like we may have done it again. With him hood heyward mclendon and amu i think we are in good shape on the dline for awhile. Hell it sounds like mclendon may have been the answer alll along.

I know I'll take heat for this but I wish Ben would shut the #%@& up. Tomlin should put a gag order on him as very little he says to the press is helpful and often it's downright harmful and/or misleading. There I said it; go ahead and let me have it! P.S. DeCastro will be fine.

just more of the nfl way to learn for him. he's already under a microscope being a first rounder and was thought to be a top 15 guy. he'll work through it. maybe it just sends a message to the rest of the league that says we still have great depth behind the stars that we lost and we are in better shape then alot of mouthpieces think. it says al woods and our backups got game too. i think ben gave him some extra motivation and thats not a bad thing. DD to smart not to put in the work, i believe. he trusts ben i think.

Ben definitely likes to talk- I dont really have an issue with this. DeCastro is going to be great and for the first time EVER, I am looking forward to preseason games to watch our OL!!

I know, I wish he would be more conservative with what he told the media. Why talk about a private conversation with another player who is struggling? Let that player talk if he wishes. No need to tell the entire league that Decastro is struggling physically.

I remember hearing about how Joe Greene got his butt kicked in his first training camp, we all know how that turned out.

Well he is going up against the #1 D so ya, our guys are pretty good. This is great that he's learning against the best, if he was drafted by the browns he would be telling everybody that the NFL isn't that much of a jump. It's only downhill from here, if you can stop our boys from rushing then you're going to do very well. He's learning on a contender.

Holly **** you guys have to stop with the "Ben needs to shut up" bull****. I guess every question Ben gets asked he should just say "everything is fine. Next question?" How exactly was he supposed to answer that? "He's still learning, it's a work in progress but he will get there", would that boring ass answer be PC enough for you?? Or would he get heat for that too? Well, I for one am glad to know exactly what is going on with Decastro so I can formulate an opinion as to why he's getting off to a slow start. I am also glad to know that he has the mental part down, I'd be much more concerned about that then it just being physical, the guys a beast, he'll turn the corner on that.

Not sure where you heard this. I'll have to research it. Because every account I have read or heard has it the other way around. Greene was a holdout and came to camp a few days late. So as some sort of punishment, Noll immediately put Greene in a one-on-one blocking drill with starting center Ray Mansfield, sort of to teach him a lesson. Instead, according to Andy Russell, Greene "destroyed Ray mansfield" in this drill. he was unblockable from the very beginning.

I'm still trying to find the part in the article where Ben says DeCastro is "struggling" physically...

His story is nothing new to a rookie. He went from being the biggest fish in a smaller pond to the deep blue sea with sharks everywhere. The MENTAL part of the game is usually the bigger hurdle. If he's fine there, the rest will follow. I'm not worried one bit.

Which is why I dont mind this - I want to know how DD is doing and, really, all I took out of that was that DD is a typical rookie who is learning the difference between being a college player and an NFL player. And, yes, I didn't really see that he said DD was struggling physically just that the players he is going up against are "really good" and its tough physically.

This is DeCastro in a nutshell imo. The guy is a hard worker and takes no shortcuts. He's ALWAYS going to be hard on himself and find ways to improve. He's never going to be satisfied with his performance. He will always strive to be better. Isn't that what we all love about him anyhow?

Uhhhh, the first paragraph. The actual words from Ben were: " it's the physical part that's giving DeCastro the most problem". Maybe I'm old fashioned but the team's quarterback really shouldn't confide to the press that the new stud offensive lineman is "getting his lunch handed to him" in practice.

A lot of people see this as reason to worry. For me it's pretty much exactly how I figured it would happen.

We already know he's the best college prospect in every single way -- unbelievable strength/speed/mobility combination, technique, mental ability, dedication, determination, off-field behavior -- in like 15 years. He is not going to be a bust unless his legs fall off, and even then I wouldn't be surprised to see him go all Cheetah Blades on us. So he gets to our training camp, he experiences what he's bound to experience -- the best players he's ever faced -- and he has mixed results. Wins some, loses some, is honest about it. He will absorb knowledge and experience from each of those losses and, like the mighty dragon that spouts two heads for every head chopped off, he will turn those losses into wins, Pro Bowls, and Super Bowls.

We should all be focusing on the most important player on our offensive line who is far exceeding expectations: Mike Adams. To me he is the story so far. A boom/bust guy who is booming right off the bat, and at our most vulnerable position too. I am super psyched to see him play.

Never said it was news, just that it would be refreshing if Ben occasionally had something positive to say instead of making waves. How does that old adage go? ... if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything.

I didn't realize he was insulting him. Also, the article didn't even allude to any "waves" over the comment which they always do, they jump on Ben every chance they get too. Also, Only 2 posters here are considering this "waves".

I think Numbah was referring to the TimesOnline article...the one the Depot one was based on. Ben never said he was struggling. That title is somewhat sensational.

He makes plenty of positive comments...it's just that the ones that aren't overly positive are the ones that garner so much attention.
