While the defense wasn't as good as it's ranking suggests, the Denver game was a product of poor game planning. DL gave zero respect to Tebow, he dared him to beat him through the air and he did.

any injury on defense will be huge this year. healthy and we will be good again. we are due, we have had our injury year or two. we should be golden this year. we sent hines, farrior, smitty and hoke out without a last SB. i don't want to send troy, ike, clark, harrison, casey, keisel, heath and ben out without 1-2 more. we don't have to many more with these guys.

I really wanted to say 4 but figured some would disagree. But the point is, those 3 things got us Superbowl rings.

Follow up with what? diehard has no comment because the caller and person that was there to witness and report this was a female. A bit short sighted and not to mention sexist, no?
Whatever...I hope it was all in good fun.

Ummmm nitrous12, my "no comment" on that portion of the thread I noted in red was commentary on ziggy hood's performance or lack thereof, not disrespect for the person writing the thread. As the officially recognized Steeler fan least likely to join the ziggy hood fan clubs LLC, I thought her entry about Redman running over him was quite telling and informative all by itself and needed no additional words from me.

Isn't doing this to defenders a 15 yard penalty and quite possibly a 1 game suspension, at the very least?

:roflmao: Hey diehardsteel, how ironic is it that I'm the only one that understands you?

As for what she wrote, I have little doubt it was exaggerated. I absolutely believe Redman broke a tackle attempt by Hood, but these writers (and commentators during games, too) are obsessed with making things sound as amazing as possible. Yes I have "message board stake" in Ziggy because I've defended him against you in the past to a degree, mostly by debunking your outrageous claims of him being flat out terrible and getting dominated play in and play out, but "Ran over Hood?" That brings to mind images of Bettis crushing (Artrell Hawkins?) of the Bengals like he wasn't even there. [youtube:rxcui8dr]Cqt9Q-RtirY[/youtube:rxcui8dr] 2:07 mark. You don't really believe that, do you? I take everything that these guys say with a grain of salt. Not only do you have to balance the weight of each report (Woods beats DeCastro -- OMG DECASTRO IS DISAPPOINTING AND WON'T EVEN START!!!), but you have to also have to question how accurate their discriptions are. Imagine if you watched a game by closing your eyes and listening to the announcer's description of what happened, and then backing it up and watching it yourself. You might be disappointed, especially if the announcer was Gus Johnson: "He breaks a tackle! He heads right! HE TURNS THE CORNER HE BREAKS ANOTHER TACKLE AND HAS THE FIRST DOWN!!!! WOW!!! So, the Steelers pick up 5 on 2nd and 4, and now have first down from their own 15 yard line here in the first quarter..." And if it's Joe Buck, you might be surprised at how lively the play was. That man made the Giants' SB 42 win over the Patriots seem boring. Now ask yourself, what agenda do these beat writers on twitter have? What tendencies might they have? I think that they, like most of the people on this board, will tend to make everything seem as mind-blowing and shocking as possible. For the most part I hate stats, and I hate other people's accounts (especially professional's) when they can't be verified by tape, because I know from hearing accounts when it can be verified by tape how easily they can be manipulated. Hence my constant outrage at how pretty much everyone on TV talking about football has a job.

Anyway, I don't want this to be another Ziggy debate, and I'm sure he effed up and Redman made a great play, but when I put my thinking cap on and think about the most realistic scenario, I'm 100% positive that what actually happened is very, very different from what you (and PWP) are imagining.

Oh, P.S., you're sexist. :lolol:

Loved the video snack, had goose bumps for all 3:35! And yes, you're the only one here who truly understands me, especially in matters pertaining to that DL stud-in-waiting with the initials ZH. Now, if I could only get you to start agreeing with me one in a while! :lolol:

P.S. And no I'm not a sexist. I explained what my "no comment" comment was all about!

    That's how I read it.

Yes, that is one way to argue it, but Pitt had one more game than Baltimore against teams with losing records but ended up with the same number of wins. So I still think schedule was an relevant factor in the Steeler's high defensive ranking. Even more so if you consider how ineffective the defense was against top teams.

If you look at our losses to eventual playoff teams which represented 1/4 of the schedule:
    Bmore 7-35 Loss 170 Net Yards Rushing/215 Net Yards Passing/4 TD's/1 sack/0 Ints/0 Force Fumbles
    Houston 10-17 Loss 180 Net Yards Rushing/138 Net Yards Passing/2 TD's/0 sacks/0 Ints/0 FFs
Bmore 20-23 Loss 67 Net Yards Rushing/289 Net Yards Passing/2 TD's/3 sacks/0 Ints/1 FFs (sacks and ff all recorded to Harrison)
    SF 3-20 Loss 100 Net Yards Rushing/187 Net Yards Passing/2 TD's/0 sacks/0 Ints/0 FFs

Steelers led the league with total yards per game allowed of 271.8 but averaged 336.5 yards allowed in these four games. Steelers ranked tied for 8th with 35 total sacks but had only 4 of those in these games. Steelers ranked 11th for Int but had zero in these games. Of the remaining 3/4 of the schedule, over half of those games were against teams with more losses than wins.

Look, I'm not saying the defense was terrible. What I'm saying is that the defensive numbers were padded by a weaker schedule and the coaching staff should not rest on the fact that this was the number one ranked defense last year. You can see the ineffectiveness against the top teams and this needs to be addressed or you are looking at another first round playoff exit if we get to the playoffs.

The point everyone seems to be missing here is that there are those on this board advocating performing this type of rude and completely inappropriate behavior on unsuspecting defenders. But I don't want to point fingers ... tomlin era.

Success for this defense is creating turnovers last season they only had 15 so that #1 ranked defense doesn't mean that much. It seems like Polamalu is the only defender that can consistently create turnovers.

You forgot NE in those top team (they made it to the dance).
Also, the first B-More loss was not strictly on the D, esp. considering our offense had SEVEN (7) turnovers.
The SF loss was not on the D, but on that Ben was hurt, should not have been in there and we couldn't score.
The other B-more loss was the result of some big pass plays, happens to the best teams at times.
The Houston loss was disappointing because that team ran the ball down our throat. Yet they only put up 17 pts. on us.

Snack, I don`t know what you do for a living, but it should involve writing...
No matter how much disdain you have for those who do it professionally.
You truly do have a way with words...
    HOWEVER...
I don`t know how you could expect a broadcaster to NOT scream at the top of his lungs, when he sees Jerome Bettis run over Brian Urlacher, with a knee to the facemask, to top it off!!!
That is one of my favorite plays, of all time, and I have seen a LOT of good ones!
Sometimes, I think they(the broadcasters), are allowed to show their emotion...
And, if you ever had the chance to listen to Myron Cope, you would know... It can be a good thing!!!(Check him out on youtube, if you don`t remember him)...
Sometimes, like with our first pre-season game, coming up on the 9th, or in the past, before broadcast tv, and the internet, you can`t always see the game, or find a video of it...
An announcer with passion, can make you see, and feel the action on the field, even if you can`t watch it live, while it`s happening!
    GO STEELERS!!!
Thank God for Internet radio feeds, during the preseason!
I guess I can see your side of it, too, in that, I don`t believe everything I hear/read, but, when it comes down to hearing an overenthusiastic announcer calling the game, or waiting to read the account in the paper(yes, they still make those),or, reading the dry, play by play on a website the next day... I would much rather hear the game live, even if it is from a "biased" source, where I can hear the crowd in the background, and feel the excitement of the game being played live.
Sure, the media will try and make a story out of nothing sometimes, but that`s their job.. They need to sell whatever they can, to get you to tune into their particular outlet of "news"... Somehow, I think you would be good at it, if you tried. No insult intended... ;-) :yeehaw:
Edit... O.K., after re-reading your post, it seems to be aimed more at the talking heads on TELEVISION.. not so much, radio,...
If that`s the case, Yeah, I agree... Hahahaha :-D  :shots: :swoon: :herewego!:
