Was anyone else surprised to see the lack of support for Dawson from his peers? No Cowher, no current players, no fellow teammates or if any, I missed them. Is there a story there I'm not aware of. Just seems like one of our greats didn't have the support of the Steeler family. The fans represented as they usually do and someone needs to tell his son to stay away from the Twinkies. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

    What say you....

Mr. Rooney (as well as John Madden, and Roger Goodell) all left right after Jack Butler's speech

There were quite a few from Steeler Nation there just not former team mates, but you're right, seems like some could or should have made it. Cowher's presence would have been fitting as well.

Honestly I also think that the 90's Steelers teams for whatever reason don't get the love of the 70's team and the team of today really. I mean when I go to Heinz I really don't see any 90's jerseys except for Bettis mostly. I just think in the free agency era it's hard for a team to keep an identity and be loyal to a single fanbase with all the money that is to be made. But that being said I suppose it's ironic that Dawson didn't have as much love there considering he played his whole career with us but Bettis didn't. But I guarantee you that when the Bus gets in Steeler Nation will be there in droves.

i thought i saw wayne gandy. dermontti may have been the best center this team ever had. they have had a few good ones, as we know. what he could do though was amazing in those days. talk about mobile, and was a rock in pass protection. many multiple blocks on a play. always one of my favorites.

Lets remember as well that alot of the players that he played with are getting into coaching now and when you are low man on the totem pole you have to pull the hard hours.

DAN left right after Butler...but did stand by the gate and sign autographs for at least 10 minutes.

Cool thing for me was I was riding the shuttle bus from the fairgrounds parking lot and I noticed the women next to me had a SPECIAL GUEST visitor pass with the name MARTIN on it...and a Jets banner.....So I asked...and she was....I had a nice little talk with Curtis Martins Aunt on the way over.

Did you go in to the Hall and see the new exhibit they have of the actual 3 rivers turf that was salvaged from the immaculate reception? I would LOVE to see that!

I'd love to go there someday. I think it would be really cool to see. Have you actually been there or did you just go down for the ceremony? Also does it actually cost to go to the ceremony or is it free for fans?

I do not understand this... I know the Steelers wanted to practice Friday through Sunday to allow fans the opportunity to see as much of them as they can and I think that was a good gesture. It really does bother me that the team did not have the option or choose to go on their own to support one of their own in the HOF ceremony. I believe in other years, the whole team has flown out to see players get inducted. I know it was before any of our current players were on the team, but still he is one of the best centers ever and he is a Pittsburgh Steeler!

I live 40 minutes south of the Hall...I try and go every handful of years.....They sell tickets for everything...my tickets were given to me by my cousin who volunteers at the Hall....(he paid 45 a piece for the tickets..but had to work his actual job so could not go)

So my free $90 tickets still cost me a tank of gas....$5 to park at the fairgrounds ...$6 to ride the shuttle across town to Hall....$40 to fill my tank....LOL they had programs for $10......water was $4 a bottle (I bought two of the exact same bottles at the gas station 2 for $2) ....Next week...parking will again be free right next to the building....and I think Hall tickets are $18

Wow, I the NFL is really low.... I really thought this should be all about the players and what they did, not trying to make every last cent that they can. Everything, except the food and drink, should be totally free. I bet Dan Synder and Jerry Jones had some say in deciding this!

I'm cool with them not going. The got their priorities in check, they need the practice. They only went last year because their current coach was being inducted.

The thing I think they should have done was brought the 4 retiring Steeler players out to their home opener of an official game in front of 70,000. Why honor them during a training camp practice of only 15,000?

Good points. I was wondering why Hines and Kordell were not a part of the four Steelers who were honored. I remember Kordell signing a one day contract earlier this summer to retire a Steeler. (Maybe he wasn't good enough in someone's mind?) With Hines, has he not "officially" retired?

    hoke? farrior?

they may still honor these guys at some games. their former players are usually treated very well by the steelers org.. these guys could have been hanging out at camp too, and the friday night practice at the HS is alot more for fans that don't always have that chance to go to a game. the players also like this venue, going back to their football roots in HS.

I didn`t even notice the lack of support from former (Steeler) Hall of Famers, until I read it in an article in the Post-Gazette, which mentioned, only TWO of our current, living, Hall of Famers attended the ceremonies.
Pretty sure, I saw Joe Greene, there, which wasn`t mentioned in the article, but still...
I was so happy that Dirt finally got inducted, and I was paying so much attention to what he said, that it didn`t dawn on me till I read this article...
Where was our support for him?!?!
I can understand why the guys at camp, couldn`t go... They have the upcoming season to focus on...
BUT... The guys that have retired??? Hines, for instance?!?! Not to call him out specifically, because there are plenty of others, and older ones, Coach Cowher, J.Peezey, that "retired" as a Steeler a week or so ago, and our still living Hall of Famers, like Franco, etc..
    ??? Where were yinz?!?!
I honestly did not think about it, till I saw this thread, because I was swept up in the moment, but now that I think about it...
    What gives???
Was it a subtle protest, that L.C. Greenwood(among a few others), should be there first?!?!
I dunno... Where was the Bus?!
Plenty of blue-collar fans showed up to cheer, but, until it was pointed out, I didn`t notice...
A LOT of our high profile ex-players weren`t there.(Swann, Stallworth, etc, who are usually fixtures on camera, when a STEELER gets his honors)
    Any ideas why?
Sumkinda protest against Goodell?(I wish, but I doubt)
Whatever... We are on our way to #7, And they will eventually HAVE to build a "Steeler Wing", onto the H.O.F. ... You got that right, Franco!!! :herewego: :yeehaw: :towel: :clapping:
