"Crotchety w fingertip catch from Batch"

Fan yells, "who needs AARP, Charlie," after Batch fires a bullet caught by Cotchery in practice"

Two nice catches in team drills, Antonio reaches high to snag a Ben pass, and Cotchery outstretched to grab a Batch sizzler"

"Batch to who gets behind coverage in impressive throw & catch during Steelers team drills"

"Tyler Beiler drops one right in his hands over the middle."

"Jerrod Johnson looks better at QB than I thought he would. Steelers have 500 lbs of QB in him and Byron Leftwich."

It's sounding promising...and I sure hope so. I have little confidence in DJ.

"B.Batch, Derrick Williams, Dwyer, David Gilreath, Marquis Maze among those returning punts in drill"

"OL v DL again today. Adrian Robinson spin move beats Mike Adams as he fakes outside speed rush"

"For the PennState fans out there, Derrick Williams just dropped a pass, didn't look good on another route. Uphill battle in making roster"

"Then again, it shouldn't come as a surprise that none of the second team offense is showing much against the D'a starters in 7on7 drills"

"Al Woods getting the best of Decastro for the most part"

"Even in practice, it's obvious that Ben looks to Antonio Brown first"

Exactly my thoughts... If that thing wasn't taped up before this then a trainer needs to be suspended. This player should never stand on that ankle without tape on it again.

"Ike Taylor told me he expects the Mike Wallace situation to work itself out soon. Multiple players: Not upset he's out of camp."

"TE David Paulsen gets a 1st team look lined up in slot right and makes a catch"

I assume it was a joke referencing the play of Demaryius Thomas against Ike during the Broncos game in the playoffs.

"For a guy who has a slightly torn rotator cuff, he Sure is taking a lot of reps AFTER practice."

TTF this may be a dumb question but what exactly do you do? Do you have a media pass at training camp? I'm loving the great training camp post you've been putting up for us!

Oh. My. Gawd. That. Would. Be. Awesome!! :rawk: :herewego:

I'm not at camp, I'm just pulling reports beat writers post on social media channels as they come in. I have twisted my wife's arm into getting down there for a practice or two before camp ends, though. Not sure when, yet.

Heard some of Tomlin's post practice interview (the live video on the steelers site is killing me lately)

    Coach T said:

John Clay had a right groin injury today
Lamaar Woodley got the day off to take care of his knee and stay ahead of the curve
Cromartie-Smith was back in practice today
    Heath's ankle 'resolved itself'
When asked about Mundy's performance he said bluntly 'he's got to earn the spot'
When asked if he had any concern over Ben's rotator cuff tear, he said emphatically-'None.'

"Another Will Johnson smash block as he crushes LB Adrian Robinson"

Uhhhhhh TTF, you mean you don't have a media pass and aren't standing along the sidelines interviewing players and coaches? What a disappointment!

    Here's Coach T's post-practice interview for anyone who's interested.~stlrs.co/R92a99
He says that Chris Rainey had a heat related illness today, but should be fine. I missed that earlier.

Re: Steelers Training Camp Day 7 8/01

Yup, Al Woods. Apparently from what I've read though, Al Woods brought his game this year. Here's some stuff on that...

From a Saturday camp report on http://pit.scout.com/2/1206233.html:

Perhaps we “read too much into it” the previous day when first-round pick David DeCastro showed far greater mobility than either Colon or right guard Ramon Foster.

But Colon and Foster played with anger on Saturday, while the smaller DeCasto wasn’t nearly as physical as the current first-team guards when he and second-round pick Mike Adams were given first-team reps. DeCastro had his hands full with reserve defensive end Al Woods in the main scrimmage.

    * Woods ran past DeCastro on the first rep and overpowered him on the second, but DeCastro came back to pancake Woods on the third.

Here's a pic of that match up from the gazette:

More on Woods from a different article there~ http://pit.scout.com/2/1205789.html
    * Al Woods has prepared well for what figures to be his last true chance to become a pro defensive lineman. He approached Keisel last spring and asked for tips before leaving for his home in Louisiana. Keisel told Woods he’s got to lose weight for starters, so Woods lost 15 pounds before training camp.

    * Why did Woods go to Keisel? “I look at him as a guy that I want to be just like, a guy who gives it up on every play, so I made up my mind during offseason that that’s what I want to do and that’s what I want to be. When everything was over I went home and I just ran and worked out, ran and worked out.” It’s early, but Woods appears to be winning the battle with Corbin Bryant for the fourth DE spot.

Decastro may struggle in 1 on 1 drills, considering he is a rookie going against men, even if it is Al Woods. That drill benefits the D anyways. I'm confident in a game situation he will be holding his own and then some. While very good at both, remember Decastro is a better run blocker than pass protector.

Re: Steelers Training Camp Day 7 8/01

Woods may be 4th string material at best and DeCastro an elite player in the league, but even so, Woods has a year of NFL experience and DeCastro doesn't. Actually, I think Woods has two years. He's been to these practices. That can go a long, long way against a rookie in his first training camp. I don't think it means anything.

Like TTF said, Woods beat him twice and DeCastro pancaked him on the third time. He'll pick up fast.
