Steelers GM Kevin Colbert responded to Ed Werder's ESPN question at least for now he isn't, if this drags on for a long time I'm sure the Steelers will change their mind.

This disappoints me because the Steelers don't typically make such flat out definitive statements and then go back on them.

Why in the world wouldn't you listen to offers since he's definitely going to be gone after this season? I saw one person talking about the Colts giving up a 2nd rounder for him because it gives Andrew Luck a target that he desparately needs and gives Bruce Arians his deep threat that you know he'll want... There's a good chance that the Colts will be picking in the top 5 in the next draft.

You have to read what he said and what he didn't say.

He said Wallace is not available for trade. Got to go look at the CBA on whether he's not available due to his situation or not. Also, I don't think there's anything out there the team wants right now. Who wrote this BS CBA anyway? Makes no sense that a player would have until week 10 to sign a tender and fulfill his obligation.

My thoughts are the Steelers are going to sit on him this year franchise him next year then trade him. No way they let him walk for nothing in return. Get him at a value this year and a pick next year that makes sense to me. Even if he does sit out until week 11 then we get him for under a million I would like to see them bring in Plax if he isn't signed by the end of camp though

I dont understand that strategy. If he stays out until week 10, sounds like the Steelers are still on the hook for $2.7M for just a fraction of the season on a guy who hasnt worked with the team in the new O. That doesnt seem like a very good deal for the Steelers for a player who has signalled loud and clear with his actions that he believes he is bigger than the team. Why would they want to franchise him after that and pay him even bigger$$$? Doesnt franchise tag bring an average salary of the top 3 or 5 players in the NFL at that position? No way is Wallace worth what he thinks he is. I say deal him now and get what you can. I dont see Wallace being the difference maker this year. And I never want to see the Steelers FO give in to any player trying to hold them hostage.

No if he stays out until week 11 he would only make 900,000 and yes its an average of a top 5 which some teams will pay him

I don't believe the Steelers are even able to trade him right now. He hasn't signed his tender so technically he doesn't belong to any NFL team. The Steelers have the rights to him, but he isn't under contract with the team, which is also why he can't be fined for holding out. Until he signs that tender, he can't be traded. That's the way I understand it anyway.

Im not sure the rules on it but lets say that's true, if the Steelers went to Mike and said "Mike, we have a trade worked out with Dallas, we're not going to pay you what you want but you may have better luck with Dallas" then I believe Wallace would sign his tender so the trade could go through. Someone like Jones would probably pay him what he wants.

Yeah he would have to agree to a sign and trade but that wouldn't happen until him and the other team came to a deal on a contract right now it would be very hard to trade him.

The big red rubber ball hit that big ole cement wall. Newton's law of physics, for every action there is an opposite and equal reaction. Lesson to be learned don't mess with the Steeler FO.

Trading Wallace would be rewarding him for bad behavior and will encourage every free agent to hold out. The Steelers should not and will not do that. Wallace dug himself into a hole. He needs to man up and dig his way out. If he wants to play, he plays here this year. Trading him would be a very bad long term move. The Steelers do not make these mistakes.

That's a good point. His tender is guaranteed, but that's 17 weeks. At 6 games he'd only take home roughly $970,000 depending on the actual date of signing etc.

Yeah and I think the projected franchise tag next year is roughly 9 million he would sign that for one year giving us the option to trade him for probably more next year.

Considering Browns contract, $9 Million may be too much to tie up in one position. Only one of them per se would be the #1 receiver. Do you pay $8-9 million for a #2 receiver?

This will not happen. Ed Bouchette has already stated there's no way they'll franchise him for monetary reasons, that's a huge cap hit... but I also doubt they want to have and unhappy player around for 2 whole seasons poisoning the locker room.

They franchise and trade option you mentioned is even less likely... If they were going to do that why not do it now? And obviously nobody wanted to give up a pick for him this season, why would they next year?

We'll let Mike either show up and play or not, either way he'll walk next year and we'll get a 3rd round compensatory pick.

After being online reading almost every Steelers article I could get my hands on after the AB deal, I think there are a couple of things I haven't seen. (Or just brainfarted on).

One of the main reasons MW is MW, is that we have a QB with an arm to get him the ball way downfield. If we traded him, the team would have to have a QB that could do the same thing, no need to pay for a WR you can't get the ball to. How many teams can afford what he wants and have the QB to get him the ball?

As far as locker room behavior goes, the other guys on the team will not let him pull a T.O. or any crap like that. They understand no one player is bigger than the team.

I'm going to on the other Wallace trade thread right now. lol :)

I agree with Tomlin Era, Colbert is just being poitically correct right now because Mike is not under contract. If they have a trade worked out Mike would sign the tender.

does anyone really think that we can sign Wallace to a long term deal now? Also, does anyone really think we are going to let him be a distraction all season with his holdout? The trade is going to happen eventually, but we have a lot of time to do so. There will be teams that suffer injuries during the preseason that may become desperate for a Wideout also.
