Towel, feel free to merge this with the thread about the new Brown`s owner, but it wasn`t getting a lot of responses, and my curiousity was killing me...
Can anyone remind me, why we had to have new minority owners?
It was a heavy topic of off-season conversation just a year or two ago, but, I can`t for the life of me, remember why we needed new partners!
Did it have to do with one of the Rooney`s owning a gambling facility, that violated the bylaws of the NFL?
That is ringing a bell in my head, but I don`t remember the details.
Maybe it had to do with Dan becoming an ambassador to Ireland? That doesn`t sound right to me.
Or something to do with a death in the Mara`s family, and they had a partial owner, prior to that?
    It`s drivin me crazy.
Anyone who remembers, why we had to bring in new owners in the first place, I would greatly appreciate a refresher on it!!!

I think you might be right about the gambling facility/etc and the shares had to be sold and such.

That`s what I am trying to remember.
Wasn`t it one of the Rooney offspring, that decided they would rather keep their interest in the gambling facility, than keep their interest in the team?
And what was the "gambling facility" they were invested in?
And (Not as important, but bugging me), which family member?

The Rooneys not only owned the Steelers they owned Yonkers Racetrack
in NY, along with other sizable businesses in NC and Florida. these latter two business's
    were not gambling entities,

They own the dog track in west palm beach Florida and yes that was the problem everything was split between the kids so to go by the law of the NFL some kept the gambling some kept the Steelers but I seriously doubt they aren't still splitting the revenue

Thanx for the link, Lizard. That is the gist of what I was trying to remember. It`s also why I hate to think about the money involved in this sport.
Almost inconcievable, to me, that the Rooney clan would ever have to resort to involving lawyers, in negotations amongst themselves, involving their shares of a family inheritance, namely, our beloved Steeler franchise.
Money truly is the root of all evil, at least in our country, at this time. :(

I think they brought in so many minority owners because Dan didn't really have the coin to buy out what his brother(s) wanted for their shares in the team.
