I just don't get it. Why guys like Chris Doleman and Cortez Kennedy going into the HOF before LC Greenwood. LC was a dominant player during the mid 1970's. I saw him tear up the Raider offensive line like a piece of paper. The only thing that I don't like about Greenwood was his attitude towards the fans. He rubbed some fans the wrong way by not signing autographs and not engaging with the fans. :towel:

the excuse i have always heard is that the steelers have to many players on those teams in the hall already. Its stupid I know, but that is what i have always heard.

Peter King at Sports Illustrated was the one who made this comment. I emailed him once, many years ago, on these points:

    1. One half of the Minnesota Vikings d-line (Alan Page and Carl Eller) are in. There is a push to get Jim "Wrong Way" Marshall in, too. Now, nothing against Page and Eller (or Marshall) but that line got rolled up and down the field in three Super Bowls. The fact that this line has more HOFers that the Steelers' line of the same period is just plain ridiculous. And if Marshall gets in ahead of Greenwood, I may fly out to canton and picket the place.

    2. More on the Vikes. Safety Paul Krause is also in the Hall. That gives them THREE HOFers, for a team that LOST four Super Bowls in the 70s. The Steelers' defense has...four. Just one more.

    3. LC Greenwood absolutely DESTROYED HOFer Ron Yary in SB IX.

King, of course, never got back to me. I love his stuff--he's by far the best, fairest NFL reporter out there. But he's wrong on this one.

Greenwood (and Donnie Shell, for that matter) deserves a place in the Hall.

I understand what you are saying, but I think they are including the offense to when they say to many players. which makes the total 9 I think. I have no problem with all the players from those teams getting in. I would like to see ernie holmes and dwight white get more consideration.

Correct. I wasn't clear. I was only making a point in regards to the defense. But since the offense/defense thing has come up, it is interesting that on a Steelers' team known for its defense, more offensive players got in (5) than defense (4).

I know it sounds bad but I'll bet you it'll be a really long time even IF it happens at all. I just say that because now we have The Bus still waiting in the wings and maybe even Hines could get in before him also. I really think the whole Steel Curtain should be there but that's just me.

I have seen LC out and about in Bloomfield and he always seemed
cordial when I spoke to him. Atleast he aknowledged me when I said hello.
LC will never be going into the HOF, BC, Bus #43 and #7 as it stands now. And the
latter 2 are no guarantees just yet.

you mean you dont think troy is a lock? I think if he never played another down he is in. he changed the way the position is played. every team now looks for a troy. I think he deserves to be in before jerome. as far as ben goes, if he keeps clean and it looks like he has it together now. He will be in. 2 championships gets him in at the qb position

he was always my favorite of the 4. hugely unsung for what he did compared to the other 3. man they were fun to watch. as dominating a bunch that has ever played the game. whether it was the fearsome foursome or the purple people eaters, none of them could hold a candle to our 4. and those others were good, but ours were in a different league.

Bussy was the #2 big back of all time in the NFL, I hope all the players mentioned
get into the HOF. Do you think Troy is as good as Ronnie Lott was? I am not sure how many
safety's are in the HOF my guess there is not to many. Troy has missed multiple
seasons due to injury's also.Maybe not enough to show the committe?

I no doubt know how talented our front four Steel Curtain players were, but their position coach must have been awesome too. Who was it?

I wouldn't be so sure about the 2 championships thing. Didn't Jim Plunkett also win 2? Don't get me wrong I want Ben to get in really bad and think that he deserves it. I'm just saying that I don't know if he will get in just based on that. If he wins another one though?? That will make him a 1st balloter.

George Perles was the d-line coach from 1972 to 1978, when he also assumed the role of defensive coordinator.

Troy is an outstanding player! That being said, IMO< Ronnie Lott was better and tougher. You have part of your finger cut off so you can play in a game? That's special commitment!

I think what makes troy better is his ability to cover. ronnie played deep saftey and came up and blew people up. I am not saying lott sucks, far from it. I just think with his speed and ability to make plays behind the line of scrimmage troy is a more all around player. by the way, I am pretty sure troy has played hurt many times. so much so he may have been better off not playing

I just do not understand this. The best players should be in the HOF and L.C. Greenwood and Mel Blount were some of the best players on one of the best defenses of all-time. It should not matter how many players we have in from that team or future teams. The best players deserve to be there. We would not have won four Super Bowls without these two players. Why do I feel the Steelers always get stiffed?

I have been saying this for years. Now, I think he has to go in as senior.
