I understood it was one of the Steeler's minority owner. Maybe not, but that would be interesting.

You are correct. From what I've read the sale could go down pretty quickly, and he'll need to do something about his stake in the Steelers before investing in the Browns.

Hmmmm, if he'd have to sell his stake, I wonder if we all pooled our life savings ... :hmmm:

I thought I heard on ESPN's NFL Live that they'd mostly give him "time" to do something with his part of the Steelers then make the announcement of the Browns official. How much time, I'm not exactly sure.

I just thought it was funny that a Steelers fan is purchasing the Browns!

I live in Cleveland - there's just passing mention that this guy had a minority interest in the Steelers. IF he truly is a Steelers fan - what is his motivation to own the Clowns?

The ownership of an NFL franchise. It's quite obvious he'll never get Pittsburgh. Business guys can separate from fandom if they see an opportunity.

He is a big time business man here in Knoxville, tn. his brother is the gov of tn. he owns pilot travel centers and flying J. they said on the local news he has always wanted to own a sports franchise. the nfl was contacted and he will have to sell his part of the steelers. you cant be a owner of 2 teams even if it is a minority owner

It's really not a matter of "separating from fandom" is it? It's a matter of jumping ship. He cannot both own the Clowns and root for the Steelers - especially since they're in the same division.

He's not really a Steelers fan. He was a fan of other teams in the past until he was offered minority stake in the team and, at that point, he replied he was now, "1,000% a Steelers fan."

No real Steelers fan would have any interest in buying any piece of the Cleveland Browns.

I don't believe that's true. Many players that grow up in Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh area become members of other teams. Many Steelers players were fans of other teams before becoming pros.

If I had the finances and opportunity to own an NFL team I'd do it in a heart beat. That new team would be my team because I was part of the ownership.

They become members of other teams because of some little thing called 'the NFL draft.' Had they had their choice, Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, and others would have become Steelers.

Still, I'd rather have minority stake in the Steelers than majority owner of the Browns.

it's a business decision. the rooney bros. wanted horse racing and casino's over the steelers too. if i was looking for a team and the steelers were not available, the browns and they're blue collar background of a fanbase is about as close as you can get.

Anyone who had a chance to own an NFL team and passed on it needs a CAT scan.

I am lmao at this whole scenario!!!
The only reason a Steeler fan would want to buy the Clowns would be to run them into the ground, but how could you make them any worse than they already are?!?!
Anyhow, yeah he was quoted as saying he was "1000% Steeler fan", but that was AFTER he became a minority owner.
Before that, he was a fan of a couple other teams, I`m thinking Dolphins, and maybe Cowboys. Just read it in an article in our local paper here in N.E. Ohio.
And, apparently, it is now official.
I just heard it on the local radio, while browsing this board.
Paid like 900+million for them. :o
Are they THE most dysfunctional franchise in the league, or what?!?! Maybe the Raiders could claim that distinction?
Let`s see, we`re just opening training camp, maybe i should sell them, before they actually play a season, and drop their value, even farther?
What the hell?!?! No, the players insist this will not be a distraction, according to reports in the local paper... Yeah, O.K. .... Right. :bs:  WHAT A JOKE!!!! :roflmao:
    GO STEELERS!!! :yeehaw:

The NFL Network, I refer to it as the NFC Network, said he's a lifelong Steelers' fan.

    So who really knows...

I think any time a person has a chance to be an NFL owner he/ she should go for it. Having said that, I wonder how Clowns fans would feel to have a self-proclaimed die hard Steelers fan as their owner? That would be like putting a knife in their hearts, I would think. Can we do the same thing here to the Raisins? (Please!)

It is definitely an interesting dynamic. The Haslam's are very successful businessmen and wouldn't inbest in something to lose money. We'll see what happens. Has anyone trolled the brownies fan pages/boards to see what they are saying about their new Steelers fan owner?

Judging from Cleveland media - they love the idea. They really don't like Lerner.

My whole thing is that people are saying that the clowns should feel bad about having a Steeler fan as owner. But honestly for me I don't like the idea of a Steeler fan owning them and trying to compete against us. That's a conflict of interest.

if he's a true steeler fan he will buy them and make them very, very bad, at least against us. fine them for touching ben and never let them beat us ever again. oh and trade they're best players to us for david johnson.

LOL mac - that would be hilarious! Haslam may be good for the brownies and they might help raise competition in the AFC North. The Haslams arent in the business of making bad investments or losing money. I like it.

Scary part if this guy does buy the browns, I bet he fires Mike Holgrem and brings in Omar Kahn in as his general manager and director of football operations. But, maybe good old Omar is under contract and can't go anywhere yet?
